What Larry said ... do away with the buttons. And what KJ and Louise said ... MUCH prefer the graphic image to some others.

It's been a while since I thought about AMTRAK ! I might just look into that as well. Baton Rouge sounds great in the spring!

Its a really easy website.

or there's arlopete@msn.com (JohnC) who would answer some questions for you when he happens to be on line (not often)

Trains are great - as long as you get one with walls  during a blizzard.

Ah, but wall-less trains during a blizzard in May can make for great memories and stories!

Oh Ceashel !!!!!

Thank you so much for posting the pictures!!! I got chills, but not for the reason you might think. :D

My parents and an Aunt & Uncle took that train ride many moons ago. It was one of their stops on the way to Canada. (minus the blizzard)

I have a ring that my Aunt had made for her in Silverton. I wasn't even a glimmer in my parent's eyes when they took that trip.

Thank you for stirring memories. I'm going to share the link to the pictures with my Mother if you don't mind!

typical blunderites... don't know enough to take a train with all the parts on it! Remind me not to take an elevator ride with you folks!
(actually, John and I have shared an elevator ride or two in our time... and we lived to go to Carnegie yet another day!)

Stephanie, of course--please feel free to share the photos (though they're going to wonder why you're hanging out online with those weird people). I've taken that train several times, but this was absolutely the best. It was May 5; the train's first run of the season, and the weather prediction was for sunny and mild, then this absolute blizzard happened. Roads were closed; the locals were astounded. It looks as though we were the only ones on the train because all the other (the normal) people went inside the cars that did have all their parts, including side walls and heating. We were with John C., though, so we knew that no bad train things would happen, and in fact it was a magical experience that I'll never forget. Oh--and that night, we got to see Arlo perform with himself at the college in Durango.

(She's 80)

There is a song about it, but the pictures are not near as good as your's!

I had to wade through a lot of Convoy to find it!

Thanks, Stephanie--those pics were great--gave a much better overall view (literally). And they included Animas Pass, which we didn't get to go to this time because we all took the train and didn't have a car in Silverton (probably couldn't have gotten there anyway, because of the snow). It's a ghost town further up the river from Silverton.

My mom and dad loved taking that train--I have no idea how many times they did, but it was a lot.

Yah, that's the (in)famous Watchtower on uke--as it should be played!
