WHO doesn't know this song ? It's a LONG time wester CLASSIC, right?
I can't find the chords or tabs to it ANYwhere ?
I mEAn...I've looked high and I've looked LOW
I've tried looking but every where I go...
every place I look says NO NO NO ?
I mEAN...I can't even BUY the darn things anywhere.
This has SHATTERED my faith in CAPITALIZM.
I thought I could BUY...ANYTHING ?
Sortta out of Daddy Woody's whole way of life but..
then....
he's gone now and if I have to pay his KID for the
chords/tabs, I gladly WOULD ?
DOES ANY ONE KNOW the CHORDS or TABS to that
CLASSIC OLD SONG...I wanna sing it to my grandkids.
THX ahead of time
catman...ISYA

PS...if ya want, I'll send Arlo $5 in the mail, or put it
in his hand the next time he plays on the Ms GulF Coast.
(I'm a stage hand, he usually PAYS ME !!! HAHAHAH)

Here it is with some added lyrics...

While I was walkin' one mornin' for pleasure
I spied a young cowboy just ridin' along
His hat was throwed back and his spurs were a jinglin'
And as he approached he was singin' this song
Yippy ti yi yo get along little doggies it's
your misfortune and none of my own
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/COS ]
Yippy ti yi yo get along little doggies you know
that Wyoming will be your new home
[ guitar ]
Now, early in spring we'll round up the doggies
Mark 'em and brand 'em and bob off their tails
Round up the horses load up the check wagons
And follow the doggies on the lonesome old trail
Yippy ti yi yo get along little doggies...

Oh, little doggies,
It's your misfortune and not of my own.
Whoop-ee-ti-yi-o get along little doggies,
You know that Wyoming will be your new home.

A cattle trail drunk and a hard road to travel,
That old Jack O' Diamonds is a hard card to play.
Get along, get along, get along little doggies,
Get along little doggies and be on your way.

Whoop-ee-ti-yi-o get along little doggies,
It's your misfortune and not of my own.
Whoop-ee-ti-yi-o get along little doggies,
You know that Wyoming will be your new home.

Some boys have bit this old cow trail for pleasure,
But that's where they get it most awfully wrong.
I wish I could tell you the troubles they give us,
As we go rolling these doggies along.

Whoop-ee-ti-yi-o get along little doggies,
It's your misfortune and not of my own.
Whoop-ee-ti-yi-o get along little doggies,
You know that Wyoming will be your new home.

Hi Catmanic.... and welcome to Arlo.Net...

Isn't this the same melody as "Streets of Laredo"? You can find that one in the Tablature section of this website.

It's surely not Streets Of Laredo and unfortunately not on "Son of the Wind" (the recording of other great old songs like this one). One of these days we're going to record "Son of the Wind - Rides Again." And this one will certainly be on it. There is a funny version we did on the Muppet show decades ago and Mrs. G or someone has it posted on Youtube. Check it out there.

Oh yeah I saw the video on YouTube for "Whoopi-Ti" from the Muppet Show. It was adorable with all of the dogies and doggies in a huddle. Great song I should say :D

If you can pick up a copy of Rise Up Singing, the song, with chords, is in there. The verses are C F G7 C, repeated, and then the chorus goes C7 - F - /C7 - F C / C F G7 C //

Thanks to everyone who gave me feed back on this befuddeler that
I've grabbed a hold of. I've learned a lot that I didn't know before
and I've even heard a few 'new' versions of that cool old song...
unfortunately, I'm not a LOT closer to being able to actually play it.
HAHAHAHHAHAHA...I FREQUENTLY butcher up lyrics and passionately
feel that it's the duty of every story teller to "improve" on the tale...
in fact, if you can NOT improve on it, I don't think it was worth telling
in the first place ! On the other hand, I've never felt that way about
the music. The fact that I'm pretty tone deaf doesn't help either, I'm
lousy at figuring out how the chords go and am ALWAYS amused when
I ATTEMPT to do so and only to find later how the chords REALLY GO
and how far OFF I was ! The confusion with "Streets of Larado" a
good example.
I did pick out a couple of them watching a VERY YOUNG Arlo, GREAT
CLIP BTW thx. But the camera didn't stay on him long enough to for
me to get the whole song...I got started on this quest after watching a
movie on the Western Channel the other day...it was used in the back
ground music....I have to wonder if Woodie didn't sell the rights to the
song and it's now burried in the bowels of private ownership or even
worse, corporate hands. I was MOST surprised by the fact that I
couldn't even BUY THEM ?
(I wasn't kidding about the $5 Arlo, unless you aren't planning to ever
play down here in DiXie ?)
ANYway...some of the things I learned were interesting and I thought
I'd share them with y'all...for example...it was said that the melody was
supposed to represent the movement of a horse ? Yea ? leaving species
out of it, horses move in LOTS of different ways...is that a TROTTING
horse, or a GALLOPING horse ? Arlo kinda...LOAPED through it so I think
that is the best way to go there, but moving back and forth on my stool
didn't work on my guitar much, though, it did feel good being "back in
the saddle again" ! LOL
The other and SURELY the most innerestin is the term Doggie, in western
slang is NOT a dawg, though I never could figure out how dawgs fit in
to a trail driven song. ? The fact IS, a DOUGH GUT calf is one who is,
through 'misfortunes not of my own", motherless and not yet old enough
to digest the grass that they have eaten, making them swell up like an
over filled ballon. The term "dough gut" evolved, as so many words did
over the miles spent in a lonely saddle, into the term "doggie".
I have to wonder, when Arlo said it was the WHOLE song, if he hadn't
left off the verse about "bobbing off their tails", cause his audience was
so young ?
catman...ISYA

PS...These old songs ARE great aren't they? I especially like the way that they
preserve a way of life that has all but vanished in this day and age. What
I like most is how "American" those ways of life were. Folk music has a
firm girp on that score, not with just western tunes but the railroad tues
as well.
An artist that ANY fan of Arlo or Woodies music might want to check out
U.Utah Phillips. The last song that made me cry was one of his, Walking
Through Your Town in the Snow. I was equally as frustrated with THOSE
lyrics as all of his music is pretty tightly controlled from...his LIVINGROOM.
At 54, I've seen the music industry run the FULL gauntlet of corpritalistic
greed, evolving into the ship wreck that the industry is in now....
I'm kinda known for my long winded...digressions...so I should skip the
details but I see that posts here aren't so many here that I'm threatening
any bandwidth, so I'll digress away...
I was one of those mad tapers who would go to any length to "capture"
live "events' creating MILES of tape on everyone from the Gratefuld Dead
to Arlo and his family a few years ago when he played the Maritme Hall
in SFO. THe nature of what we did was never much of a threat to the
corporate profits so we went pretty much unmolested for...decades.
Skip forward to a year or so ago and I sat in horror as I heard of one
friend after another having their doors kicked in buy the FBI and a lifetime
of collecting being dumped into "evidence bags"...ugly. The very LAST
of the Sex, Drugs and Rock and ROLL era was SLAMED closed when they
finally took away the...MUSIC.
Afraid that I'd end up on a "group W bench" in some cold and lonely
government building somewhere, I gave up one of the greatest passions
of my life...recoding AUD music. Sure, there are a LOT of artist who
still encourage it but I've stepped aside from it all...let those laptop
juvenals have their fun. The ONLY music that I listen to now is LIVE
music. Ever since Katrina, I've not had a stero or the financial ability
to go to town and hear OTHER people play it so the only music that
I hear anymore is music that I make for myOWNself. Ocationally I'll
plug a cd into this computer but I don't even spend enough time here
anymore for me to use it for that even.
The ONLY time I BUY music anymore is if I can buy it DIRECTLY from
the artist at the side of the stage or from their website. That is the only
way that I can see to cut out the "middle record company man".
I don't guess BOYCOTs carry the weight that they did in Woody's day,
but I do my best not to support things that I don't like.
The last thing that I bought was from Utah. Odered it RIGHT from him
and after I explained how his song had moved me...he sent me a nice
detailed explaination of how the song was played ! He wrote it in his
own hand and placed in between the liniar notes, quite a NICE surprise
for me, as you might imagine...that song is now part of my daily set
list ! Quite a divergence from my usually exclusive Neil Young set list.
Music, for me anyway, is always at it's best when it's LIVE and PERSONAL.
I've worked so may shows, IATSE 674, that the thrill is gone from the larger
venues for me too, opting instead for the small clubs and roadhouses
where all of this music was meant to be played to begin with.
If I've learned one thing in life, it's that, if you live long enough you will
see everything that you ever loved shrivel up and die, or worse...just
fad off into obscurity. You have to hold those loves close to the vest for
as long as you can. Utah is in failing health and may not get the heart
transplant that he so desperately needs so I don't guess I'll ever get
to hear him play, much less play and sing along. Unlike the cold down
loads and endless lists of Mp3's and the crap sound that it all has, paying
Utah directly for his music actually felt GOOD.
I hope that I get to work one of Arlo's shows before time catches up with
one of us, though bein in the business myself, I know how demanding the
road is, I don't blame ANYONE for...just stayin home and the comfort of
the harth.
Well...the sun is up and the A/C quit this am. I woke up to hot air blowin
down on me. A/C is to southern Mississippi in the summer what a HEATER
is to all ya yankies in the winter time....gotta have it. I've got REAL
work to do today !
SoooOOOooo...I'll bid you all adue for now.
I appreciate the warm reception and must confess that I spend MOST of
my online time over on the Human Highway, a Neil Young site where I
can exercise my forays into mental masterbation to my hearts content.
Forays that might not be so well recieved everywhere, but we ALSO talk
music once in a while too ! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH
(if any of you want or need aNy Neil info, if I don't have it, I can find it
for ya, don't hesitate to eme... catmanLLL AT hughes DOT net !!!)
I'll try and make it back over here if for no other reason than to keep
track of Arlo's tour dates...AND...if I DO find someone who has tabulated
this old classic song, I'll be happy to forward it on to y'all.

Peace and Love Forever...

catman...ISYA

PS...I've always believed that the best thing that
you can do for an artist/musician is to learn their
music and then PLAY IT every chance you get.
Keeping their art alive is more than MOST off them
get out of all those labors of love.
Thx again Judy !

Hi. It should be C - F - G - C along the lines and along the chorus I suppose you have to keep C from Woopytayeyo to own. and on the second line of the chorus Wo (C) tayeyo (F) G and C. Hope it helps. Thanks.

Ooops forgot to tell that playng the first line of the chorus keeping only the C chord could seems like you're out of tune but if you hear Arlo on the Muppet video it seems out of tune along the first part of the chorus. Bye
