This is the lyrics to what became our (Mikes and mines) song. We'd heard it on the radio thousands of times and had even seen the group live in concert with some other 60's acts. One day a few yrs or so ago I heard this song on the radio in the car and it hit me, they were talking about Mike and I. I told Mike he just had to listen to the song cuz it was talking about us. and so we ended up making it our song. Every time I'd hear it after that I'd tell Mike listen, they're playing our song! I think Mike had a copy of the song either on a 45 or cd. I had it played before his funeral during the visitation at the church and also had the lyrics printed in the little bulletin cards they had out at the service. I wanted that instead of those sad poems they have that just break your heart like miss me and let me go etc. I could not have handled one of those kind of poems and this song so fit in. So here are the lyrics:

This is my favorite line in the song:

I thank the Lord for love like ours that grows ever stronger

THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE lyrics - More Today Than Yesterday
(Pat Upton)

I don't remember what day it was
I didn't notice what time it was
All I know is that I fell in love with you
And if all my dreams come true
I'll be spending time with you

Every day's a new day in love with you
With each day comes a new way of loving you
Every time I kiss your lips my mind starts to wander
If all my dreams come true
I'll be spending time with you

Oh, I love you more today than yesterday
But not as much as tomorrow
I love you more today than yesterday
But, darling, not as much as tomorrow

Tomorrow's date means springtime's just a day away
Cupid, we don't need ya now, be on your way
I thank the Lord for love like ours that grows ever stronger
And I always will be true
I know you feel the same way too

Oh, I love you more today than yesterday
But not as much as tomorrow
I love you more today than yesterday
But only half as much as tomorrow

Every day's a new day, every time I love ya
Every way's a new way, every time I love ya
Every day's a new day, every time I love ya

no shit! those are a whole mess of awesome lyrics!

this is actually a verse that was tacked onto an old shaker's hymn? called simple gifts...don't know really who wrote the verse.
i know i know...i am not what you would call religious but there is something in there that i liked...perhaps it is a bit sentimental (?) but i can be a tad sentimental myself sometimes i suppose!
"'tis the gift to have friends and a true friend to be
'tis the gift to think of others not to only think of 'me'
and when we hear what others think and really feel
then we'll all live together with a love that is real"

okay here is another...
"hey look at the people
sometimes we forget
that we're just people
and we're falling head over heals
cuz all of us forget quite how to feel" ---the garden of eden/new riders of the purple sage

okay another one...
"sometimes if i shout
it's not what's intended
these words just come out
with no gripe to bear" ---the promise by when in rome

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make-

"I think we're all running, thinking we can hide,
Running trying to get away...
But we're going to meet up with the truth
face to face" Sons & Daughters/Neville Bros. (Sorry for the misquote but it's real close to right. I'm too lazy to pull the disc at the moment.)

I found where I could download some old contemporary gospel music from the late 60's & early 70's online. One song by one group (I forget the name of the group or the name of the song) has this neat line in it. "I"m a fool for Jesus, whose fool are you?". That impressed me somehow...
