well, i did manage to find a copy of the wicker man to rent. (it included an extended version, which to me makes more sense than the theatrical version)
it is an interesting film, artistically speaking, and it does leave you thinking about the nature of religion...or something. maybe that is what it is supposed to do? seems it would be disturbing to both christians and pagans (the clash of cultures in the film). don't want to give away too much in case anyone who hasn't, wants to watch it.

perhaps i just flat out don't understand the movie...but i did find it interesting and artistic and disturbing.

oh Agnes, wow, am so happy you went and saw The Wicker Man!!

it is a brilliant film - i love the music (have the soundtrack on record) and the photography is just AMAZING. yes, beautiful and disturbing, love it!!! i have watched it a lot of times and even worked on my friend's dissertation for his English degree a long time ago - he wrote a paper about traditional vs modern and looked at The Wicker Man and Walkabout. another amazing film. oooh don't get me started!!

won't go into it too much to avoid spoiling for others but think you'd enjoy Don't Look Now. also haunting and beautiful...and terrifying!!

I never saw "Wicker Man" because in my opinion, a film rarely lives up to one's expectations after reading the book. I read it many many years ago, and was enthralled... both anxious to read the next page, and afraid of it!

I'll have to see if I can find the book again - or rent the film.

(Maybe I'll have pizza while I watch)
