Very much saddened to hear of Melanie’s passing

We love you Melanie!

I just posted one of my favourite songs ever a few posts back that you sang.

Another song I had forgotten about that you sang, I have it (still have it) on an album someone gave me (I was so thrilled to finally have a recording of Candles in the Rain, my favourite!) an album called the Four Sides of Melanie that you could unfold the album cover and turn it into a cube! I was in high school by this time, and I had a friend who I loved to bits. We were not boyfriend and girlfriend material, I just happened to love him to bits and it seemed perfectly normal. I was compelled to write down the lyrics to Melanie’s song “Beautiful People” and present it to him, “this is a song by Melanie and I think you fit in this song” (in so many words).
Of course (I say “of course” now, of course) this could have turned into a very awkward, “What? but I…what?…err…uh..” but he almost laughed out loud for a moment, but could see where I was coming from somehow, and I was most sincere, and he just went with it! I mean, I could see him perhaps cutting out pieces of paper and writing “Beautiful People” on them and safety pinning one to each of our sweaters, and onto anyone else’s sweaters who would stand for it. I can’t remember if that part actually happened or not but it is certainly within the realm of possibilities.

So Melanie, thank you for singing a song that said what I might not have been able to figure out how to.
