My question is:

Do you believe Shigella evolved from E. coli?

Gus, I think that's all explained in Black Holes and Antiflatulence Genes.

We can all pray for antiflatuence genes in our seatmates at concerts, whether we 'believe" or not.

i thought for sure i would hear tale of at least one adventure of being able to sink a ship or at least blow out the sides...or cause it to float above the water.

'agnes, you silly goose!"

first star to the left (or thereabouts) and onward til day light!

[ Their theory is that this happened independently on at least four occasions (there are four species of Shigella) so that E. coli is the closest common ancestor to any one species of Shigella (this could end up in the rename game that is so common to microbiology). However, this agrees with Stuart’s stringer of lights and patches.]

Looks like I'll have to jump in here, I hope you all don't mind..

Yes! Evolutionary evidence is creating havoc for clinical microbiologists, epidemiologists, pharmacologists, and not to mention the infectious disease physicians, who battle with finding antimicrobial susceptibililty patterns to treat empirically with an ever broadening spectum of antibiotics- while holding in check emerging resistance, not even knowing what the hell the name of the bug is anymore! Well...uh..let's try telavancin on CTAGGATCCAGCTTACTA...!

This fascinating theory psbeaty has imparted here about Shigella speciation occuring 4 independantly related times surely would be enough to send the taxonomist screaming and runnng for cover!

We know taxonomists had no molecular basis when they came up with the current basis of classification, thus differentiating genus and species based on metabolic reactions, etc. Now we must learn new genetic-derived classifications as we restructure the bacterial world according to amino acid sequencing ...and maybe even carbon (sugar molecule) encoding (?). How many ways can you point at one time?

i was wondering what role the use or overuse (for lack of a better description) of antibiotics had in all this...but that is about all i can contribute

i was wondering about it earlier, but i got incredibly side tracked!! but then you reminded me

so is this where the amino acid thing comes in?

and not to change the subject,,,honest! carry on...i mean it!!
but...louise! have you gassed up the broom!? i am ready for another sky trip (that is if you are up for it, frankly i am chomping at the bit) ceas! you have to come too!

anyways...it's not about the brooms or the balloons or the carpets...it is about the journey! (and the music)

it's so easy to literally get carried away in thought around here

Well Agnes my broom and I are a bit pooped after all that flying around we had to do last week, keeping an eye on The Chief while he was here. But when rested we will honk outside your house.
