I was reading some Post Modern vision of the world with Madonna as exhibit A. Madonna, with her lipstick, pointy nipples, and hairy armpits…just like a virgin…for the very first time. The words described her as the quintessential post modern…because she .understands that it is all about the superficial…just a mask. That is the post modern world with reality or the President of the United States..its all a presentation, a perception creation…So naturally I wonder what makes that post modern….Isn’t that the way since Nebuchadnezzar sat on the throne or Caesar created himself Emperor or that cat in Vienna with the great purple cape in the 1100’s paraded along the Danube with the air of the spokesman of God and made great pronouncements to the superstitious peasants who had come to town. I saw that robe once…the great purple robe…it was on display in the museum of the Holy Roman Empire in Vienna….it was among gold encrusted saints teeth and splinters of the cross…all dazzling and dressed in jewels and venerated and prayed to over the ages ….and I thought…maybe that splinter is wearing a mask or maybe that tooth is wearing a mask……they must have been post modern before post modern was born…I wonder what it was like to wear the big purple robe and speak for God…nowadays people wear robes of silk in Florida instead of wool (the wonders of air conditioning) and synthetic ermine instead of animal skin…. I guess its Egyptian cotton for those who speak for God in Iraq or Iran or Afganistan…some where suits as part of their mask…I wouldn’t ever wear a suit if I didn’t have to…

Did I tell you I saw Tan Dun play a piece he wrote based on Chinese Folk melodies…I got a good seat because the new director of the Baltimore Symphony plays to many works written since 1950…that would be post modern music….Tan Dun conducted the music and it had a stone solo (actually a duet between an old Chinese guy on the video screen and a Caucasian man in the percussion section). The week before John Adams conducted and played his piece called My Father Knew Charles Ives. He said it was inspired by a time in his life when he was a little kid and could hear swing music playing across the lake on warm Massachusetts evenings. He said his father could have known Charles Ives but they never actually met. He also played The Wound Dresser, a cheerful little ditty with words by Walt Whitman with a baritone singer singing of rows of cots filled with human debris in Civil War era tents in DC…and he went from cot to cot replacing bloody rags with clean ones and writing the dictations of letters to loved ones by young boys dying slowly of the Great Cause. The sounds of swing music from across the lake was far more pleasant but the Wound Dresser did create a sensation of introspection. I guess old Walt wore a mask when he traded clean rags for bloody ones but somehow it doesn’t seem as superficial as other masks you might find in this world.

Who wore the greatest mask in history? Who is the great pretender? You know the key to success is perception. It Realty don’t mean shit to a tree and there is no truth. What is the probability, that the next President of the US, will actually significantly change the course of the world? What is the probability that hatred will be reduced in my lifetime? I mean, ever since I realized I was on this planet, there has been an extremely high level of hate ..both intra and international in scope…..and the funny thing is that the greatest degree of hatred…that killing hate….is reserved for those the hater’s don’t even know… I mean, I am a Hateee of people I have never met….There are many people in this world who want to kill me for what I represent…just dumb old Okie trash from cowtown OKC….the mask I was born with…but I represent evil to many home and abroad because of my place of birth or philosophical bent….so either I play this game and represent my mask with gusto and hate those that I should or I take off my mask and say there is a truth, a real truth among humans that can be realized if we all take off our masks and put those days, those superficial days, behind us….

Oh Ya, Roz says he would be up for that Godiva gig

Perceptions and masks are of a kind, and these questions are interrelated. One could argue that George W. is wearing that mask, although even to the ingnorant, it is becoming more and more transparent.Talk about pretenders. And sadly, the next president will probably not change the course of the world as much as this one did.

I don't think he changed the course of the world that much but he damn sure didn't do anything to improve it! I mean he just fed the hate after all and its hard to increase that significantly! I think there might have been an oppurtunity to make a difference with a different response to 911 and had a better man been in that office some measurable change might have happened, but you never know? I mean, I think there could have been a more effective response (and I mean fightin that madness...I am all for fightin' terrorism don't you know). He just f'ed it up a little more with his expensive (talkin lives and wasted resources) dirty war.

Isn't levity like jello?

Hmmm, maybe the Purple Avenger is something my son made up when he was little... Maybe I'm in some serious brain fart territory.

Sounds like a Liberace concert. :?

I still don't know how many ways you can point at one time, but I'm sure it's not as many as the Bush P.R. machine.......

Wasn't the "Purple Avenger" an alter-ego of the "Great Grape Ape"?
