Marin Alsop is a tour de force in her musicality and accomplishments. Why is it some women cannot take that? My best guess is that they are biased against her choice of a same gender partner.

Her accomplishments stem most likely from her genes and the environment she was raise. She has a life time of dedication to music, and never let being a woman stop her from going after traditionally a "mans" job. I cannot say if this is related to her sexual orientation, although it might help that she likes wearing a tux..? :)

I think the controversy may be coming from the aging patronage of the BSO ( who were doing a great job of driving the symphony into the ground before she arrived) and from stupid people who make inane comments like what psb encountered. They are not so uppity about the fact that she has ovaries but that her spouse has ovaries, too. Anyway it was never an issue when she was in the San Fransisco bay area.....if that means anything...

i know that there are ill feelings toward gays out there!

but i still say that i believe that it is not required she be gay for those kinds of attitudes (in both men and women) to happen toward her... just that she is a woman is enough for some.

i am really not familiar with her or the kinds of people who made those comments so it is hard for me to make a specific call there.

I don't know why I woke up thinking of Roky Erikson songs and I was looking looking looking for the lyrics to that one song, hows it go

I can hear your voice
Echoing my voice softly
I can feel your faith
Reinforcing mine
If you fear I'll lose my spirit
Like some drunkards wasted wine
Don't you even think about it
I'm doin' fine

Then I realized I got a package from England and an invite to the next Kinks North London gathering from Pete. It seems another friend named Peter has written a book on travel called All Gone To Look for America. It has a lovely little personalization To Shawn, Hook Norton's Favorite American (come and tell us what you think of us!)...A special invite to Hook Norton for some pints of old Hooky! On the back cover it says...As the Bush era comes to a close there is unprecedented interest in America on the cusp of change.

We are changing, even as I write these words. I guess I have to go to Hook Norton now? I got a CD full of photo's from Memphis Pete, and Jim and I in Sun Studios or relaxin' on the big white couch at Graceland, Graceland, Memphis TN.

In a recently read book, Tribes, author Seth Godin sets it out that life is moving fast, we must be agile, that fear of change is built into most organisms, because change is the first sign of risk, and that in a large corporation, fear of change used to be the way to rule the masses when efficiency is the order of the day, but now the fear that used to protect the masses at work is our enemy; its now the thing standing in the way. It is the heretics and ruckus makers who are emerging as the new leaders. The ones who challenge the status quo, who get out in front of their tribes, who create movements.

That is very cool about the acknowledgment in the book. Looks like you will have to go back, they are Hooked on you (who could resist?) !!
