Will The Circle Be Unbroken... almost 20 years ago when I saw him shortly after my mother's funeral.

I thought I was the only one!

The first ( and only ) time I heard Arlo sing these songs, and heard the stories (MY Peace) , tears that could not be controlled rolled down my face. I creid until the collar on my shirt was soaked. I cried in frustration - of lack of progress, I cried for the soldiers, I cried for more hope, for peace in my lifetime, for a love I was missing. I was deeply moved.

I was going to post this on the other thread ( about My Peace) but when this came along, I thought I would bare my soul.
I am in good company , then!

He can make me laugh and cry during the same song.

Many of the songs touch me - I can't pick just one. Different songs, different days. BUT I will tell you what really moved me. Hearing 'Times Like These' live with the U of Ky Sym in Lexington. Drove 6 hrs to attend the concert and it was worth every mile!

It would have to be that one where the whole wide world had all agreed to never fight again. (Though so unpatriotic.)-tough to imagine.

I'd say When a Soldior Makes it Home. I can remember a story in the news during Viet Nam about fallen soldiors being flown back into America during the middle of the night to avoid....what? People knew the death count anyway. I also remember a report of a Viet Nam soldior who made it home alive and was spit on by a citizen. It was horrible.
Entries on tis forum bring back so many memories, good and bad.

The first Church Concert Arlo did after 9/11, he sang "Patriot's Dream" and the tears just flowed. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. That was the first time I ever heard him sing that song in concert, and what a powerful moment it was! That was also the weekend we started bombing Afghanistan.....

At Carnegie this past year, "Last To Leave", "You Are The Song", and "My Peace" all got to me--mostly because of my father's passing a few weeks before, I think....

In the background of my Oregon childhood I heard Woody (and others)singing This Land and the Columbia River Ballads. Course I didn't know about Woody's boy til a few years later! But when he sang This Land, when he was here in '04, that did it for me! Firstly because just being in the same room as him made me feel as homesick as hell and also because I was hearing a real Guthrie sing it for the first time.

Losing you to OZ was their gain!
