beats the hell outta me how they could compile some of that stuff without either doing random sample surveys of actual participants, or tracing IP addresses to actual subscriber databases??

Likely compliled by the same people that figured the chances of finding WMD's in Iraq. I mean many of them are out of work, or soon to be out of work, and making up numbers is one way of making a living and providing job security. Although I'd prefer to be just a person and not a demographic, I suppose these folks need to make a living too, and better to count old hippies than phantom WMD's I guess...........

Good point.... Sort of like the "bee-watcher-watchers" in Dr. Seuss's "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are"...

I feel like Big Brother is watching me...
And how the heck can they make demographic info about people if it's not something we've had to reveal to be here?

I'm thinking that there's a way of knowing how many males and females are here and our ages (did we have to input our birth year when we signed up?). Many of us have our locations listed. By looking at our ages and how many of us are from certain areas, they can generalize about our education status and income levels.

Just a guess... I guess.

I doubt those seemingly guess-stats raise the excitement level of anyone--we probably come across as pretty uninteresting to those who would use that service. At the top of the report, it says there's no advertising on arlo.net, and at the left it says: "We have sparse data about arlo.net, so these are rough estimates. Get Quantified to see more accurate results." That sounds like the thing is aimed at site owners--if they give access to more detailed aggregate user info, they get back stats to use when they buy advertising.

But I think you're right, it's the Clam.

Well, as you already know, most experts are experts because they say they are, not because we say they are.

I just took a quick look at my profile. Aside from my e-mail address and my birthday, no year, there is no info there. Not even male or female. How did they get the info? I'd venture to say it is totally inaccurate. Interesting, but inaccurate.
