Well, I've been debating upgrading to phpBB3 on here for quite some time and this morning I went ahead and did an install and conversion. I've decided to run a public test with it - so you're all invited for a peek:

http://www.arlo.net/resources/phpbb3/

Feel free to play over there as much as you want to get a feel for it - and post opinions back over here.

NOTE: Don't post anything over on the new forums that you want to keep - as once I decide if we're gonna switch, it will be repopulated with everything over here... so any posts made over there will be gone.

Me no like. TOO clinical looking and modern like you could be on a forum anywhere. Kinda grates on my senses.

But then...............I still miss the blue sky and fluffy white clouds

I'd almost forgotten about the sky/clouds background... don't even think there was a forum in those days! Of course, this is just a base install - without ANY customization done at all... has some nice new features I do like, and the look can be changed. I think you should be able to go into the user control panel and change the default style to "subsilver" which is more like this setup.

I hope that isn't the page that first shows up on our page.

But I thought the old one was better than what is here now on arlonet.

It had a cute old way about it.

Even this one looks too high tech.

It has improved navigation, good customization possibilities, and you can dance to it. I give it a 10!

See that's why we need technophiles like Shel :) My head is still very heavy and foggy so the bright lights hit me hard and I didn't play or dance. A different look and I'm sure it will be fine.
If Shel says it deserves a 10, I believe her without question.

I installed a few other styles I liked from: http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/?phpbb=3.0.2

You can change the board style by going to:

User Control Panel > Board Preferences > My Board Style

I also changed the default style.

Um, I didn't install the HELLO KITTY (or the others you mentioned)... :) That's another site with the styles... perhaps you need to head to bed?

I like how you can set it up where the newest posts are up on top instead of at the bottom. It will save me from having to scroll down to get to the new posts... :)

While I was just reading this, listening to Fay's winds and blunderstorms howling outside, I was enjoying leftover salad for breakfast until celery time came up. I had to put the salad down, 'cuz I was reminded that vegetables can think.....

Celery time can be scarey when the celery is chasing you with a jar of peanut butter! Maybe it was a parallel celery time I was lost in?
