It was my final semester attending Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. I was/am a pretty good student, though I had never gotten straight A's. Seeing how it was my last semester, I made getting a perfect 4.0 highest priority, because that would also mean that I would then graduate Cum Laude. I was enrolled in a public speeking class that turned out to be harder than I anticipated, and was fearing that my goal would not be realized. One miraculous day the instructor announced that if time allowed, one could recite a memorized poem for extra credit. About a week later, a good 15 minutes remained of class, so I jumped at the chance to recite Alice's Restaurant. It took about 10 minutes (because I didn't have to wait for the guitar to come around) and I got the maximum points for my efforts. As a result, I got an A for the class, a perfect 4.0 on my report card, and barely graduated Cum Laude. Now I am in graduate school and am wondering if it was such a wise move in getting that extra boost that landed me in the pickle I am in now. Thanks Arlo!

Welcome to the site. That's an interesting story there. Arlo music is definitely something that needs to be taught to the young folks these days and older ones too...

Of course now that you are both in a pickle AND in grad school, now that you have mastered "Alice's", the next step in your "Higher" education is to deeply study "The Motorcycle Song". It's a natural progression. :)

It took me 2/3's of my life before I even attempted Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of anything.......and don't even get me started on the difficulties of locating a decent clampoon these days......
