@larry: If you want to do a good tin-foil hat spooky, look at ALL the weird things that happen or start in 1947. It's a who's who of things to come. x it out!

I think they could come up with a good role for him on "Lost". And I'm sure he wouldn't mind playing it, since they film the show in Hawaii.

Too bad "Life On Mars" is over with... Arlo coulda gone back to 1973!!!

Also, I don't know how the hell he would fit in... but "Big Bang Theory" would be WAAAAAY cool!

i like the idea of Big Bang Theory... the Folkslinger and the Geeks meet at a Trekkie convention... he teaches them how to tune their spiritual self... by sight; they show him how to teleport from show to show... WITH the bus!

"Life on Mars" would have been good, not only because Arlo could go back to 1973, but because he could be on Mars at the end.

How about "Law and Order: Significant Misdemeanors"?

For science fiction/fantasy, I'd have to go with "Doctor Who". Arlo would make a great companion for the doctor.

Cheryl -- Big Bang Theory was created by the same guy who created Dharma and Greg; it has the same kind of goofy oddball flavor. I could see Arlo fitting in there, maybe as a suitor for the mother of one of the characters.

I know nobody needs anybody else to make suggestions, so I put these more in the category of fantasy. I also think Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon could have done a great grumpy-old men style "Merchant of Venice" but don't expect them to do it other than in my head (particularly since they're dead).

Ok, Cheryl loves that 1960's-1970's tv stuff. Who remembers "My Mother the Car"?

In the updated version, " My Father the Car", Woody is reincarnated as(what else) a Woody in California. Arlo plays the Jerry VanDyk charactor and Woody the car only talks to Arlo. Sit-com chuckles ensue as the Guthrie clan is put into all sorts of weird situations. The theme song of course is "Take you ridin' in my car, car".

Nah, doubt that - since most of the Doctor's companions are young and female. Now what I can see him doing is the Doctor himself! He could have Sarah Lee & Johnny as companions and I somehow see Abe playing The Master. Can you imagine the sonic screwdriver playing Alice's Restaurant?!

I agree; Arlo would make a great doctor (does he have any scarves?) and your scenario looks fun. My own thinking was that as the doctor gets older (that is, younger), he might benefit from having a companion who shares long life experience, can help him negotiate life as an elderly timelord in a rambunctious young 'un's body.

And he has to be on the original Star Trek. That's the only one I like or watch...

How about "Saving Grace"? Arlo could be the angel Earl's guitar-playing buddy or the Monk-like quirky detective who can sniff things out better than a drug dog or who understands the psyche of the hippie serial peacemonger and says Yoda-like incomprehensible proverbs and nods sagely.

The website Television Without Pity has a poll up asking

Which theme night would you like to see on American Idol?

1. Arlo Guthrie.
2. Opera.
3. Songs that have humming in them.
4. Rap (Uncensored)
5. Boy Bands.
6. Adam Lambert week, where Adam sings every song.

Awesome.

American Idol as a rule puts me to sleep and I don't watch it when it gets past the early rounds. The early rounds can be fun because it reminds me of " The Gong Show" and it's fun to watch the bad acts and the nutcases. :D

If they need some more theme ideas, how about:

1) Yoko Ono night
2) cat caught in a blender night( No, wait....that would be the same as Yoko Ono night)
3) drinking songs
4)Bob Marley night(Complete with smoke machines filled with.....you know)

Now that Blago's been disqualified, how about "I'm a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here!"?

John From Cincinati. It was way cool. His name was not John and he wasn't from Cincinati. I didn't like the constant profanity but the story was very interesting! HBO took it away after only 10 episodes and the story was not over.

If HBO would bring it back for another season, Arlo could sing and talk to John and find out all about him-and surf!
