Fortunately it was a false alarm being generated from the previous time distortion event. Tuck efficiently cleared the alarm console and continued his calculations on the crystal life cycle.

"Captain, if I am correct we will have just enough power to get to the mining colony. We will, however, need to be watchful of our energy usage as any extraordinary draw on the power may hinder our progress," said Tuck.

"Lulu, is there a closer colony than the one we are currently on course for?" asked the Captain looking somewhat worried that dinner may again be delayed.

"Aye Captain. The time distortion must have affected my readings also. There is indeed a closer destination. Shall I redirect our course?" asked Lulu who, glancing over at Checkup smiled knowingly.

"Yes, Mr. Lulu. Engage the new course!" expounded the Captain.

The faint sound of bagpipes once again emanated from the ships com causing Scotchy to once again be lost in a quiet revelry. Just then the Burpolift doors opened...

"Damn it TIm, how am I supposed to get anything done with all these time distortion events and the like happening!" exclaimed Clones. (or was it Bones or Jones or...)

"Doctor, the events we've been dealing with are quite outside our control," explained Tuck in a effort to keep the good doctor from spurting.

"Captain, I'm picking up something on a little used frequency. It's quite faint and I can't quite make it out, but it sounds like home," said YooHoo.

"Explain!" responded the Capt.

"What I mean, sir, is that it seems to be a signal that would likely be emanating from the Folk Quadrant," replied YooHoo.

"Home!" exclaimed Scotchy. The rest of the bridge personnel perked up too. It had been so long to be lost without any way to get a bearing on where they were so they could get back to where wanted to be. Ensigns Larry, Arnie, Agnes, and Cheryl had started moping around as though home was just a distant memory, never to be seen again. Len, Eileen, Wildeflower, Sue, Todd, PSBeatty and many of the others too were somewhat despondent at the prospects of ever returning home..

"Can you put it on the com?" queried the Captain.

"I'm piping it in now, sir," responded YooHoo.

"Tuck, what do you make of that?" asked the Captain.

"Captain, allow me to attempt to bring the signal in a bit clearer. If you don't mind Ensign," he said moving over to YooHoo's station.

"Of course Mr. Tuck," exhaled YooHoo.

Tuck made some adjustments and there it was, unmistakable yet still faint - "I don't want a pickle, just wanna ride my motorcycle..."

"Tuck, can you get a bearing on the signal before it fades? It may be our only chance to get a certain heading so we can go home," said the Captain in earnest.

Tuck quickly returned to his station and attempted to hone in on the signal. "Sir, I've laid in the coordinates on Mr. Lulu's console."

"Tuck, how certain are you of these coordinates?" queried the Capt. further.

"Sir; Tim; I am certain we are lost at the moment. I've gotten the best information we've had up until now. I am certain that we will not be any more lost by using the heading I've calculated."

"A guess, Tuck?"

"An extrapolated pondering of information Capt.," replied Tuck.

"Mr. Lulu, engage using the coordinates you received from Mr. Tuck," commanded the Captain in a quite commanding way. "Ahead Warp 4!"

The Blunderer shook a bit as the engines engaged and they were off...

After what seemed a short time on ship but a slightly longer time in the surrealness of the events the Blunderer again stopped amidst the echoing nothingness of space.

Out side the viewsreen showed pickles and motorcycles floating about in an array of patterns seemingly looking like a roadmap and only two locations marked. A dump and a restautrant.

Along with the visual confusion a furious rythmic drumming could now be heard on the ship's steriophonic sound system. What could all this possibly mean, did it have a meaning or where the dieties just messing with the crew?

Whilst seriously delerious the gravity of the situation wasn't lost and the blunderer started sinking into a gravity well of an unseen demi-planet. The term demi-planet being used as the term Dwarf Planet was deemed politcally incorrect during the previous Little Peoples rebelions.

Taller folks where ambiling about with sore shins for weeks and didn't desire to repeat the episodes or wondering how they barked their shins when the safety gurus had constantly reminded them that all dangerous low objects had been safely padded for their protection, Not the objects protection the the protection of the shins of tall people from low hard objects. But thatys just a tragic aside having little to no bearing on when the stroy may yet progress.

And downward the Blunderer slipped deeper into the gravity well of the Demi-Planet. But what was the name of this place they were all sliding madly towards........

"Dammit Tim!" exclaimed the good doctor. "I just knew that green blooded Bulkan would get us into some kind of mess."

"Clones," interrupted the Captain (yes he did). "This can't possibly be the result of merely laying a course based on the triangulation of phenomenomnomnomeonomrnen, er, occurencesenceseneceesncfcesdfa, um, stuff. Tuck did his logical best."

"That much is certain Capt.," intoned Tuck. "I fail to see where the good doctor's ranting is improving our situation. The time distortion seems to have had far reaching effects. Perhaps Mr. Scotchy and I should look into the memory and logic circuits of the main computer to more clearly ascertain the extent of the damage."

"Aye, Capt." burped Scotchy. "Tuck is right. We'd better get down there so we can stop the further drift into the gravity well."

"Gentlemen, get to it!" commanded the Capt. "YooHoo do you still have a fix on that signal you picked up?"

"Yes, Capt., although it is getting a bit fainter as we drift farther into the gravity well," responded YooHoo.

"We can only hope that dinner will not be delayed too much longer," moped the Capt. as Scotchy and Tuck entered the burpolift. "Turn off the viewer. Those pickles are making me a bit peckish." Checkup and Lulu exchanged knowing smiles as the viewer went black.

"YooHoo, have you determined our location?" queried the Capt.

"Not yet, sir. I'm doing my best, but the time distortion effects have slowed things down a bit."

"If I didn't know better I would suspect that Flan had a hand in this whole scenario," groused the Capt. After that whole Lobotomy Bay affair the Capt. had been a bit paranoid; suspecting Flan of many things. Just then a sensor alarm went off.

With little noise or fanfare the Blunder bumped and thumped to an undignified stop at an angle best suited for fun houses and wizards shacks from Hairy Potter habitates.

This left our slightly befuddle heros and heroines confused and wondering it the beer and wine stocks were safely secured for impact. Shaken beer is never fun to find acidentally. That and the crew was in no shape for playing beer hunter.

"What happened?" asked the Capt.

"We have appeared to stop, sir," replied Yoohoo quickly.

"On screen," commanded the Capt.

"On screen, sir," replied Mr. Lulu exchanging another knowing glance at Checkup who did his best not to laugh. (If I didn't know better I would say they had already been playing beer hunter eh!?)

Indeed the star field was still. Had the gravity well collapsed? Had Tuck and Scotchy repaired the damage to the computers memory and logic circuits? Had something no less new and no less sinister occurred? For the answer to these and other questions (When's this show going to start?) stay tuned for the next installment of the story.

The star field was still outside and the stars where carving a lazy arc to the side of the view screen directly ahead and tilted to the side was a odd sign. Nothing as would be found on a casino strip in any resort areas where taxes are high and food is bad but surely no a sign expect to be seen in this region of the Space & Time Inversion.

It appeared the Blundereers where alongside a roadway of some nature and what resembled a motorcycle with a large propeller in the back had just cruised by. But the sign was really what caused a buzzing on the bridge and by a few crew members who scurried off the ship when the chance presented.

The sign that curiously wonderful sign looked hand painted, slightly weather worn and very incongruous. it simply read "Eat at Alice's." Could it be? Dared the crew hope? Could they of benn so lucky?
Would they sober up enough to make it there?

The burpolift doors skritched open...

"Capt. Mr. Scotchy and I have repaired the problem."

"What do you make of that Tuck?" queried the Capt. pointing towards the view screen.

"It appears to be some of the crew on an EVA, Capt." replied Tuck in a rather nonplussed tone.

Tim whirled around in the command chair and sure enough, there was some of the crew floating towards the sign. "Ensign, patch me through to the radio link. I want to find out just who those crew members are. I didn't authorize ANY EVA."

"Aye, aye-aye," responded Yoohoo.

"Crew members, report!" commanded the Capt, in a very commanding tone. There was a brief silence.

"Capt., Arnie here. agnes, Larry, Zap and Eileen are with me also. Ahhhh, what'd ya want?"

"Who authorized this EVA?" the Capt. snapped back.

"well capt.," replied agnes, "we saw this sign out here while we were doing some other stuff and since it seemed to be quite an interesting site to be seen we all thought, or at least i thought and maybe the others thought too, but i'm not real sure about that so you would have to ask them specifically; but i thought it might be kind of nice to take a closer look at it."

Well, you - dear reader - can just about imagine what was going through the Capt.'s mind at that point. While a likable bunch, the crew for this voyage had presented some interesting challenges for the veteran crew members. Having been recruited from deep in the Folk Quadrant they had exhibited a somewhat nonchalant attitude to regular crew discipline. It seemed that they carried a strong attachment to someone referred to only as "Arlo". The data banks did not hold much info on this personage to the Capt.'s surprise, but these members were likable enough, as I said, so he overlooked the anomaly as had the rest of the seasoned crew (basil, garlic and thyme if my taste buds are correct).

As the Capt. pondered his response...

The crew members out side the good ship Blunderer heard a distant sound; Slowly and quietly, the crew members on EVA pause to listen to the sound, the dim and distant sound which came to them like the Siren's call heard by brave Odysseus of ancient times. A simple melody, calling for all to gather at a location that was some how precise and yet indeterminate. Some where just a half mile from somewhere...but where could this place be and could the folks there be friendly? What was the message and its meaning........

Unknown, unexpected and certainly unconcerned, the crew out on EVA had taken a certain chance at this certain point at this certain time and, well, they made a great choice. You see, with the passing of time the ship had been lost was a total of way more years than they had anticipated or thought. The time space inversion had played more havoc than a mariachi band in Tijuana on a beautiful June evening. While many things appeared to be changed and new, the sign was definitely the same sign they remembered from what was now long ago and far away yet ever so near. THEY WERE NO LONGER LOST! (ya know ya don't need to shout? Well but it's a grand discovery that should make everyone happy you silly interrupter of the story line. Interrupter, eh? I'll show you - - swhish, KNOCK! . . .)

"Exactly what have you found, Agnes?" queried Tim.

"We're home, Cap'n! We're home!" repeated Agnes repeatedly overjoyed at the prospect of no longer being lost and no shorter either.

"I believe Agnes is correct, Cap'n. I trust the adjustments Scotchy and I made to the central computer caused another time schism that not only returned the ship to the time of our departure, but also to the place - or planet at least - of said departure", intoned Mr. Tuck with all the certainty he could muster at this time and place where this so called mustering was taking place in time. (Huh?)

"Open a channel, YooHoo, and broadcast this ship wide!" commanded the Cap'n now completely unconcerned with the lateness of dinner let alone any other meal he was looking forward to in the past. "Crew of the Blunderer, this IS your Captain speaking." (Lulu and Checkup cast knowing glances at each other as they chuckled under their breaths yet again.) "It appears that Mr. Tuck and Scotchy have been successful in repairing the damage caused by the time space conversion inversion or whatever the heck it was. I am pleased to report that not only are we back to our original time in history, but have also returned to the point - or planet - of our departure. All members that wish to disembark may do so. While we still need to check in with Star Fleet, I am suspending this requirement at the present time."

Turning to Tuck the Cap'n mumbled, "How'd I do?".

"Very well, Tim. You have been and will always be my friend. I'm not sure why I said that, but it seems appropriate," opined Tuck.

Little did they all know, but the adventure had only begun. . .
