Bus travel came to sudden halt in Cleveland during the gig at Cain Park. So we stayed a few extra days in Ohio and instead of going home, went directly to Wolftrap - The Filene Center, in Vienna, VA. Left there Sunday morning dying to get home as its been months since I've seen the place. Usually I try to take a little time for myself during the summer - with family & friends. But there was one more stop I had to make before I got back. I pulled the tour bus off the road at The Church (The Guthrie Center) in Housatonic - The same church where I took out the garbage decades ago - Because my daughter Annie was doing a gig there with local singer/songwriter (and a most recent member of my band), Bobby Sweet.

It was really a fine gig and I'm so proud of my kid. Bobby's songs are really terrific, and the two of them on stage were just so freaking funny together. Annie & Bobby AKA "Bitter-Sweet" had a great night. Even tho the weather was hot and sticky and there's no AC in the church, folks came and had a lovely time. They received an encore and I left feeling like a proud dad and a good friend.

Finally, after months of overseas flights, trains and cars - or broken busses, I got home, ripped off every shed of hot sticky clothes and hit the water of the hillside pool in a smooth dive. It was after 11 at night and I floated around looking at my stars. There's one more gig this month at The Philly Folk Festival - until then I'm remaining in the water with a cold brew or some of that great Bourbon I brought back from Lexington, KY. Stay cool.... adg

Maybe you can put a snorkel on the Indian and get in some ridin' time. And isn't Big Blue 12-string waterproof???

Selfishly, I'm happy you were delayed a bit because I was at Wolf Trap for the show and enjoyed it, especially being introduced to Time for Three. Have a good rest of the summer.

Inquiring minds want to know what the folkslinger's "cold brew" of choice might be... Wish I could have made the Wolftrap gig, sounds like it was a good one (is there such a thing as a bad one?)

Well, when I was in Cooperstown, NY I got a few cases (small boxes) of a variety of brews from Brewery Ommegang, and I haven't had a chance to try 'em all yet. I'll let ya know!

Ah...but what about the Bourbon brand? (It's hard to derail a one track mind) :)

Yes it is. I brought a bottle to the church a few years back on a night that Ramblin' Jack was playing. So, I bought Jack a drink after the show, which I understand might be a better idea than buying Jack a drink before the show. :)

You got that right. I was scolded rather severely by his road manager for "buying" Jack a beer before his set several years ago.

It was a fabulous show! We brought our daughter Laura, her husband Mike and his parents. We enjoyed a slightly rainy picnic dinner before the show at the tables on the grounds.
We could tell that everyone under those lights onstage was suffering from the heat and high humidity, and were hoping that A/C and cold drinks were in the works for all involved after the show. We headed home directly after the performance, because we were interested in the same...we weren't under lights, but it was plenty hot and steamy for the audience as well. I was glad the bugs weren't biting; I've gone home from Wolf Trap covered in skeeter bites before, and it didn't happen this time.
We loved "Time For Three" and were glad we got to hear them play.

Great show, Arlo! All of us really enjoyed your songs and stories!

Don't get too drunk now. :) <g> Have fun at home. :)

Sounds like I missed a great Wolftrap show. Maybe one day...
