Off to see Sarah Lee and Johnny tonight at the local brew pub. I think this is the first time a Guthrie has come to Huntsville, Alabama. The show is sold out.

Fantastic!

Just the facts. I was so glad they came to Huntsville. Maybe some of the other Woodstock/Bershire area acts will realize this is a good town for gigs. It has good rooms and ... money. And we need the feed. Someone tell Folk Uke and the Burnsies to glide by. I keep hoping Hisself will but I always do. There are definitely better rooms than the brew pub but the main thing is there is an audience for them and it is getting bigger.

Got to check out the Wassaic Way CD today driving to and from work. It does not disappoint. I know how much an album can differ from a live act and for good reasons. The album is different but different good. They got a great production out of it and as I said in the review, the songwriting is stellar.

A few of the cuts on Wassaic Way keep running through my head, in a good way of course, and kind of make me think deep down that the Beatles have just released some never-before-heard stuff. A very creative and well put together record. Yes, I still call them records.........

It really was. It was bloody cold in the brewery but colder outside. Dana says we take a blanket next time. OTOH, we had the very best seats in the house so when Sarah came up front to sing sans mic and when they stepped offstage in the middle of a song, it was simply excellent.

Of course they don't remember us coming to Great Barrington and there is no reason they should. Sarah knew my name from the internet postings. I guess I should shut up but I don't have the will power.

They have a very smooth act and their kibitzing is entertaining. They tell stories like their Dad and they do it with humor and lightness. They were good in GB but the act now is orders of magnitude richer. Johnny shines on the axe and has a vocal versatility I wasn't aware of. His songwriting is first rate. She is an angel with a spine of steel. God, I hope they keep going because it just gets better. There is all the talk of new folk, etc., but their songs are going beyond that into something more original and deeply passionate. Good luck to them and love.
