Polka music has actually been around for some time. It started in Europe steming from classical music and later was transformed into a different style in the 1920s/30s in the United States. Contemporary polka music is actually a product of the musical talent of many immigrants that came to the United States. In Poland, there isn't a musical form as such heard in the US; however, the Polish language is still used in polkas as its contempory form along with English.

Everybody Polka!!!

We are dancing this thread to Warsaw!!!

the cool thing about the polka is that it's not WAY different than the bunny hop or the hokey pokey! ok, it is, but they are all fun!

A Little About The Band:

The Polka Family has inspired many individuals in the vast polka network of music around the country and overseas. Their style is somewhat resembling Happy Louie. The Polka Family consists of Hank Guzevich, Freddy Guzevich, Gus Guzevich and Nellie Guzevich with the addition of Greg Saskowicz, John Milek and Frank Kolodzieski II... Their theme is that all of us are part of one entire "Polka Family".

Don't know where I'm getting this energy...You polka freaks kept me up too late last night, once again.

Jenn & I had a ball last night.

But the prospect of Star & my daughter having IM chats is scary indeed...

From, "The Finn Who Would Not Take A Sauna" by Garrison Keillor

One night he went to Eveleth, to attend the Miners Ball
If you have not danced in Eveleth, you have never danced atall
And he met a Finish beauty there, who turned his head around
She was broad of beam, and when she danced she shook the frozen ground

She took that shy young man in hand and swept him off his feet,
And bounced him up and down until he learned that polka beat
She was as strong as any man, she was as fair as she was wide
And when the dance was over, he asked her to be his bride
