Cheryl, an example..........
when I 1st discovered Blunderchat late last May ( continued thank you's to Starchild for being my initial tour guide), I was excited about the opportunity to hear about & chat about my on-going admiration for Arlo, Within a month of me finding Arolonet, Starchild told me Arlo would be playing near me, on the 4th of July. So, I rooted around, found my "more, Together Again" T-shirt, noting the personal irony, & went!
Pleased and thrilled as I was hearing Arlo, it was Sarah Lee, who just blew me away! An obviously talented young woman, just beginning her singing career, with the voice, personality & desire to take folk music into the 2nd 1/2 of this century, or at least a whole lot farther in it than I'll see, on her own, if need be.
As my friend, Karen says, I was "brusting to conversate" with Blunderites about Sarah & share my enthusiasm with others who felt the same way.
I was on-line much more then, than now, so I chatted & posted frequently.
Without being aware of it, every post or chat i made here, involved Sarah. People found that a bit tiresome, or, came to see me as a rather vacuous, blithering, Sarah-groupie, instead of the part intellectual, part silly,
ecclectic leprechan, that I am.
What really did it for me, was, seeing Sarah Lee on stage during intermission, in Oct & saying "HI Sarah, I'm Bumper" & seeing a look of, shall we say, trepidation, on her face... that told me, that my enthusiasm had been a bit , "over the top" to the degree that even Sarah was "concerned".
So, while my love of her young voice & exciement about her future is unbridled, my comments & chats about her have been modulated, to better reflect my feelings & the person I truely am, in 3 dimensions.
The written word, without body language or inflection, is hard to interpret at times, (even this post could be construed as "professorial & condescending", it's not!)
I now take extra care to write what I mean, tempered with the understanding that my words stand alone & repetition of topics tend to be magnified, when only read, not heard
If there's a lesson here for you, please take it, with my good wishes.
We now resume our regularly scheduled broadcast, The Blah & Bork Concerto, performed by Peabody Ruehl, sotto vocce

Is THIS what happens when I go to sleep?

You guys get out the s'mores and disco? OK, except for the s'mores part, I'm really glad I was asleep...

Hope to join you all in an Irish jig, tonight.

bumper..i am trying to compose a post and this is my third try...i am having difficulty finding the correct words to describe my feelings right now...(it isnt just anyone who can render me speechlees/typeless!)

your post is eloquent and on the money as an analogy for cheryl as well as a lesson for us all.....in both the fact that we cared to let you know how your posts were being seen and that you saw fit to 'modify' those posts...

this still isnt exactly conveying how impressed i am with how you said what you said just now...but it will have to do..

i guess i'm just trying to say thank you...
so...THANKS!

I don't think there really ever was a war with Bumper... We discussed things like adults, and reached an understanding. No problems at all!

Bumper,

We discussed your post a little this morning, and I do admire it. I also see some similarities between your "Sarah past" and with Cheryl's Arlo fanatacism - you and I had even joked about it.

Like Dave, I see some major differences - I know your differences with Dave were handled in personal emails. You always had the courtesy to listen to other people's opinions about the situation and respond to the points made. You never accused someone of not understanding the words you'd posted, here or elsewhere.

The cool part is that your post really goes to the heart of the matter. Like Todd pointed out, fandom can be a trap. Breaking out of that trap is good both for the person who was trapped, and for the person so admired. I hope your words are listened to, since so many others' words have been dismissed.

Bumper my good fellow, that post was intelligent in message and form, was to the point and on topic, and could not be considered offensive in any way. My only question is:
