Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes! I just got home late this afternoon...I've been in Baton Rouge, LA for my niece's wedding, and then on Sunday my family (mom, my sister Lizz, my sister Carol and husband, my brother Scott and wife, and some of the kids (and my grand-niece!) plus the bride and groom went to New Orleans to play for a couple of days.
The wedding was outdoors at Alligator Bayou in Baton Rouge. The wedding (and the bride!) was beautiful, and the reception included a Cajun band and menu...gumbo, fried alligator, steamed crawdads, crawdad pistolettes (a kind of stuffed roll) jambalaya, boudin, and bread pudding with white chocolate hard sauce. They kind of had to roll with the punches with the wedding cake...the guy who delivered it got in an accident while delivering it, and it got wrecked, so there were some different cakes; it was all good and it didn't really matter. I really enjoyed being just a guest, and not being responsible for flowers or any other part of the wedding.
I got to celebrate my birthday with my family...the best gift I could have ever had. It's the first time in about 42 years that we've all been together on my birthday...as soon as siblings took off for college, that was pretty much the end of family birthdays where all the siblings were there to celebrate.
I have to say, it was a blast!
