It's been 18 years now since we both signed up for that fateful trip to Europe with a certin Folkslinger, and we've been friends ever since. Happy Birthday, Shirley! And many, many more! Sometime this week, in the vacinity of Mystic, CT, an eclair will be consumed in your honor!

Love you,
Judy

Happy Happy Birthday to you ! ! !

I wish we were all in a car going someplace really fun. Well now that I think of it we don't have to have a destination just the trip itself was pretty Blunderful.

Thinking of all the fun times and wishing you as much love as you can hold in that great big heart of yours.

Big Texas Love,
Connie & Chuck too

Happy birthday kid! I would not be overly impressed by Judy's offer to consume an eclair in your honor, since she finds a new reason to do so each and every day! :D

That's a very good question! I'll have to give it some thought!

Shirley, happy birthday to a dear felllow Native Texan! My contribution to your birthday celebration was a Ghirardelli square filled with caramel. You loved it! (I did, anyway.)

Shirley asked me to thank everyone for their birthday wishes. In all the changes that have happened on Arlonet over the last year or two, she somehow got lost in the system, or lost out of the system, and has to get herself back on here. But she was happy to receive everyone's good wishes!

Brigitte, the Europe trip came about when Arlo offered a trip to Europe through the RBR back in '89. About 40 of us Blunderites joined him in August of that year for a two week tour of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. I remember he claimed to be trying to escape all the hype surrounding the 20th Anniversary of Woodstock, but when we checked into our hotel in Lucerne, what was playing on the TV? You got it! The movie "Woodstock". He looked at us all, sitting in a little side room, watching that movie, shook his head, and left. We all laughed. It was one of those "special moments". We all had a great time seeing the sights, eating Wiener Schnitzel, drinking the local beer and wine, and partaking of the local pastries. We didn't go to France, so I don't think I ate any eclairs, but I'm sure I must have had some Strudel. It was on this trip that I took the photo in Vienna which ended up on an official Arlo tshirt 2-3 years ago. I think there was also something about us being there to look for the Three Little Pigs, but I'm not sure. It's a bit fuzzy at this point. I'd have to go back and read my notes. But what isn't fuzzy is that Shirley was one of my roommates for the trip. Tshirt Cathy, Arlo's infamous former Merch Girl, did a great job of matching up perfect strangers who soon became lifetime friends, and that is how I came to know Shirley! The trip was a lifechanging experience for us Blunderites, and although I can't say for certain, I think it was for Arlo as well!
