There is a baby birdie sitting in our yard. We cannot see a nest but the mommy does come to check on it. Anyone know what to do? (non-violent suggestions only please)

According to animal rehab folks and nature centers around here, leave it alone. The parents will continue to care for it even if it's on the ground. You can try calling a nature center or licensed wildlife rehabilitator in your area but chances are they'll tell you the same thing.

Yup, here they say the same thing. (Leave it alone.) Exceptions would be if the parents clearly have abandoned it or if it's injured, but then only if you have arrangements made for an agency to take it in and they approve your intervention.

Thanks for the replies.The problem was that our dog is the one who found it. He didn't hurt it but was curiously pawing at it and he spends most of his time in the yard. So anyway I scooped it up in a bucket and put it in the back of the yard on top of the playground thingy. Since things like this always happen on holidays I wouldn't be able to call the animal control person until today. A few hours later Tristan checked on "Puffball" (of course by now the boys had named it) and it was gone. No signs of injury, so I guess it hopped away.
