Let's see how it plays out next week! Seems that Dean has lost steam... he didn't seem very presidential after Iowa, and I think that hurt him badly.

Saw some of the speeches last night; Dean could redeem himself IF the media would cover that and not just his excess of enthusiasm. But at this point, I would be fine with Kerry or Dean or Edwards, even--whichever can Beat Bush.

Just heard about the latest polls... if the election were held today (by direct vote) Kerry would win it...53% to 46%

I'm keeping The Polling Report bookmarked... I know that statistics can be manipulated... but I find it interesting.

But of course that would be the popular vote.....remember what happened last time?!?!?! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/eek.gif" width=15 height=15>

My sister and I were discussing something along these lines the other day and here's what we both decided should happen <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

There should not be so many "primaries" so far apart (date-wise). All the candidates (and, let's face it, there are way too many Democratic candidates and not enough Republicans) should do their stomping from town to town and then have ONE primary, nationwide, probably in June (that gives everyone enough time to recover and have their conventions).

Now, the conventions seem like one big excuse to party anyway. I'm not sure I even remember a time when there was a "surprise" at the conventions. A meeting with the candidate, his advisors and party leaders, low-key, should be held to lay down the planks of his/her platform (which should already have been done during the campaigning stage anyway). No muss, no fuss, not major expense.

By staging only one primary on the same date for the entire country, we could eliminate the "pre-primary" spilling the beans. No one state could influence voters in any other state. And, while we're at it, do away with "exit polls" which only discourage late voters from bothering.

(Ever notice how those who complain the loudest about our government do NOT exercise their OBLIGATION to vote?)

Candidates would get free airtime for non-derogatory advertisements (tell me what you've done and what you will do) in alphabetical order... at scheduled times so those interested would tune in and those not interested would remain totally tuned out. The less expense, the less money they have to raise, the fairer the playing ground and a much lower chance of "finance inequalities" and other frailties of the system.

Anyway, when my sister and I are elected president, that's how we'll be running future elections <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

I'm making my presidential poster. Anybody but Bush on one side, and Edward Kennedy on the other. Didn't you just marvel at Kennedy's disgust of George W. at his latest speech.

Well, it's certainly looking like Kerry so far. Wasn't my first choice but he's fine with me. He's getting the usual mud flung at him from the right and left, but he's been a liberal forever and as a boomer..it would be pretty cool if he won. He was a movement guy. He isn't going around apologizing for it, either. Actually, I only didn't like him because I didn't think he was much of a speaker and was concerned if he could connect with voters. It seems he's doing well in that area. Of course, a lot still could happen.

Pat, I said almost the same thing last night: Kerry's fine with me, if not my first choice.He has a lot of plusses, and if he can win, I'm for him all the way. (And since my first choices never seem to win anything, it's good.)

Kerry's initials are JFK (Forbes), he's from MA, and is he Jay Leno's (also from MA) brother? Same hair, same chin....

I think a Kerry/Edwards ticket would be pretty strong. I'm glad to see Dean and Clark on the way out, I think both would be disastrous candidates. If Kerry pulls away, I hope the others will let him go and not tear him down.

after reading arlo's thoughts in the RBR about, maybe everyone should become a republican for a while, now i'm hearing that "billy jack" is planning to run in the republican presidential primary.

Not only do my first choices never win anything, my best guesses never do either. I have a record of wrong predictions that's nearly 100%. I'd better start predicting a Bush win to help the cause...but it's SUCH a depressing - not to say terrifying - thought.
