Yep, that was odd the way our Aussie Prime Minister enlisted George W to give him a boost. 65% of Aussies don't approve of Bush, so our Johhny was loosing brownie points every time the Pres spoke.

And he certainly didnt dissappoint - thanking our PM for the invite to the "Opec" conference in Sydney, heaping praise on our "Austrian" troops ..LOL. I still think he's living proof that the American voter has a sense of humour.

But it was all worth it - The Chaser's Apec motorcade stunt was priceless.

Just in case y'all didn't hear about The Chasers stunt - its a weekly TV comedy show on Aussie ABC (government network, like the BBC). They take the pee out of everything - a stock in trade is turning up to a serious politicians press conferences and asking Trivial Pursuit questions. They get thrown out of everywhere.

And in a great piece of lateral thinking - it could be hard for a deranged individual to get through the $300m security cordon around the APEC leaders conference - but, driving up in an official looking motorcade was worth a try. They were waved through one police check point, then another, and it wasnt until they stopped within a block of George W's hotel, and one of them stepped out dressed as Osama Bin Laden, that the cops smelt a rat ..... LOL. Great stuff!

Bush Postpones 2008 Election

Cites Constitutional Power to Protect Nation's Security

WASHINGTON, June 21, 2008. President Bush, citing his authority as Commander in Chief of the armed forces and his inherent constitutional power over foreign affairs, today ordered a postponement of the 2008 presidential election in order "to protect the American people in our war on terror."

Elections are important," the President acknowledged. "I know that. I believe in elections. I'm President because of an election, sort of. But protecting the nation from another 9/11 is more important than holding an election precisely on time."

The President noted that as Commander in Chief he had already approved telephone wiretapping without court warrant, incarcerated alleged "enemy combatants" indefinitely without trial and, in a February 2002 order, now rescinded, had authorized the armed forces to ignore the Geneva Conventions when "consistent with military necessity," so long as everyone was treated "humanely."

"If I can do all that, I can defer an election," the President said. "Look, as between not voting on time and getting locked up without all those Geneva rules and such, which is worse?"

As of now this is only fiction. But so much of what Bush has already done would have been thought to be the stuff of fiction before he took -- I mean literally took as in stole -- office.

Yah, I've been saying for a couple of years that this (a coup) could happen, and now the idea is popping up here and there ... I'm glad it's being talked about; maybe awareness of the possibility will help prevent it. This is one time I REALLY want to be wrong. You can call me paranoid, but it's so "them"; that has kept me up more than one night, as Jay can attest.

It is not fiction that lots of the northeast lost power in 2003. It could be fiction that some branch hit a power line in Ohio that shut down 26 power plants. As an electrician myself, I've heard they have things like surge arresters to prevent such and outage.
If Bush ever dares to declare marshel law this land will go dark.

I've got a bumper sticker on my back window that says" Support Our Troops-DUMP BUSH".... this morning on the drive to work on the interstate, some guy got along side of me honking his horn like a madman and flipped me the bird. I guess he ain't figured it out yet.

I read a story this morning about two guys in India who stole sperm from a sperm bank and tried to sell it. They're being charged with "stealing and cheating." Imagine--just imagine--if cheating was a crime in our country. D.C. real estate would suddenly be a great bargain, starting with 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and Number One Observatory Circle (the VP's residence). The federal prison system would be in crisis.

I've seen a couple of peace symbol stickers on cars with the phrase "Footprint of the American Chicken". Some of us ...um ...elders may remember that from The Sixties. I don't see how it's very relevant today though, as there isn't a draft (yet) so the only people it could apply to are either our service people who chose to serve or the protesters who have no danger of being drafted (yet) and who (IMHO), by the very act of publicly protesting, are not "chicken".

From John's blog...I told him that although I had been, and remain, opposed to what our leaders have asked our military to do in Iraq, I’d come to see the current situation like this: A house is burning and we need to determine the cause of the fire. But regardless of whether it was started by arson, lightning, or faulty wiring, our sons and daughters are running into the flames trying to put that fire out.

In my view it is most important to put out the fire, quickly. The time for understanding the cause is after the fire is out.
