You just brought back a flood of great memories. We had a '67 ragtop LandCruiser that I loved. Took it camping and all over California mountains, deserts and beaches. We sold it in '74 to buy a Land Rover we still have (though don't use). It's hubby's retirement project to fix it up.

What was W's facial reaction when told Queensland was bigger than Texas? Did they have to sedate him and put him in a dark room for a few minutes?

Curious that sport utility vehicles got targeted as gas guzzlers. I've noticed that more than a few have/had gas mileage comparable to "mini-vans" and mid to large size passenger cars. And pickup trucks! Forget it! Glug, glug, glug!!!

It really depends on which one you're driving...the smaller ones get pretty good mileage. My Ford Expedition was one of the large, gas sucking models, but we bought it because at the time we needed a vehicle with 8 cylinders to tow a trailer, and the smaller SUV's and mini vans weren't rated to pull the weight AND hold the people and camping stuff. We sold the trailer and had no more need for a tow vehicle, so we sold it...to someone who is using it to haul her daughter's horse around to shows. It's seeing mostly weekend use now, instead of daily use.
