Um, so far all he's done in office is sign his name to a piece of paper -

Maybe we can get him to dress up in a flight suit and land on an aircraft carrier!

Whether Obama or Roberts (or both) were at fault, they're not alone. Every President in recent memory has screwed up the "oath". This is what the Constitution requires of the person becoming President:

"Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: 'I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.'" [Constitution, Article I, Section 1]

So whenever someone adds "so help me God," they've "screwed up".

i remember hearing those words and wondering..."is that the way it goes?"
not that i knew anything otherwise...but was curious?

recently i heard a an abc anchor reporting the Gitmo closing order.... then following with the horrors that might follow because 1 guy who got released is now an active terrorist somewhere...

and i thought... this is what needs to stop...

this process of reacting with fear, negativity and dire warnings (very high drama) to changes in the status quo... is what carries us down the prickly path of being too scared to be different.... being too afraid to risk real change, real humanity, truth and transparency....

we are always vulnerable, we are always at risk and it's time to grow up and live with that...
and some will be so afraid and/or so pi**ed off that they will continue to try to spread that fear ...

i will not participate... I will not judge those who do... but count me out of that very harmful game we have played...

No Drama...

my plan.... listen to my heart, my instincts ... discuss, take action... live with the consequences...

I agree about not reacting in fear... Reacting in fear got the $700 billion bailout plan passed. It's also the primary reason I will vote against anyone who helped pass it in upcoming elections.

And perhaps I am wrong - but did I not hear Obama say that his economic stimulus package would not effect us in our lifetime - but it would instead be our children who would foot the bill? And even if I'm not wrong I'm sure you hardcore lefties will have a spin to put on that as well.

MG -- The Constitution explicitly prohibits requiring a religious test of anyone holding public office or trust (Article VI).

Adding "so help me God" is just custom and nobody really knows how far back it goes -- it's still debated whether Washington said it.

Thank you, Eileen, for answering that question! So OMG can now become SHMG!
