I, as a Minnesotan for almost ten years, am very happy to FINALLY have a second senator from my State. Although he is a comedian, this Harvard man at least has more intelligence and creativity than most I've seen in Washington DC.

Politics tend to amuse me...better to laugh than cry.
They saved a spot for him in Health/Education (MN one of the 'better' States for these, not great, just 'better.')

If we're gonna have public schools, we need equality. I did student teaching in schools at different parts of Seattle: One had computers for every child; one, teachers had to purchase paper and pencils.
I won't even get started on the "levy" system for funding schools.

And I've worked beside the working poor/lower middle class, who couldn't afford health insurance or go to the doctor (except ERs) or even miss work...until they became so disabled they could not work.
Now the State is paying SSDI and full medical for injuries/diseases that cost a lot more than preventative care.

Sorry to blunder/ramble on. Just wanted to say, this Minnesotan welcomes her new Senator Al Franken!

Aisles of smiles! Congress just got a little levity
I saw him on Thursday on TV and he was cracking up everyone , even the commentator who was reporting the story couldn't help smiling!

Finally! a PROFESSIONAL comedian to help keep all those amateurs in line.

Maybe he has dual intentions. I believe that he sincerely feels passionate about making a positive difference in this country and this world, about trying to make it a better place. But as part of the deal, he is getting some great new material to work with, from a perspective not available to most comedians. He began his Senatorial carreer rather seriously, I mean he didn't want to start off as a clown, he wanted and needed to be taken seriously. But he is lightening up some. The jokes and humorus opportunities will find him, and they will reveal themselves through him when it's approprate, because that's a large part of who he is.
