I don't wanna repeat something that I have posted elsewhere. Please see the "Birthdays" thread under the "Legends of Folk Music" forum for details of my unpleasant experience with Chuck Berry.

Truth is stranger than fiction again.
I saw on the news last night that U.S. forces are flying over Taliban areas, broadcasting on local radio, messages that include the phrase "Resistance is futile". We have become the Borg! Can you believe this shit?!

there are a finite number of musical notes, some are gonna get arranged in a similiar fashion, to create a melody, and, in reality, nobody "owns" any of em.
And, with the "war on terrorism"...we'd better open up some land corridors & get food into Afhan quick! Seems like we are "stalling" waiting for diplomatic deals, to be cut,,, Winter & famine won't wait.
Isreal & Palestine are winding up, while Saudi Shieks sit & smirk..
I can't believe this shit!!

this one goes back to "no easy answers" situations to me. the idea of killing (probably thousands of) people to be able to feed others is fairly contradictory in my mind. there's more, but that's the big stumbling block for now.

as I see it, s
Star, we are at war with Al Kaida & those Taliban forces who oppose us, all other Afghanis are in need of our aide, immediately,, aparently, we are reluctant to hand power to the Northern Alliance but, untill a coalition can be worked out Afghanis need food, now! Those who oppose food getting thru should be targeted & removed

my understanding is that it is the taliban who is preventing food getting through...if the reports are accurate they are the ones that are taking the vehicles of the aid workers and burning the food they confiscate.

It's my own understanding that one of the main purposes and goals of this entire military intervention/covert operations/world-governments-uniting-to-diffuse-and-defuse-terrorism-worldwide is, in fact, precisely to target and remove those who are keeping food from getting through to the people who most need it -- not only in Afghanistan, but in Somalia, and anywhere else this is happening. And it's not only about food, although it's certainly the immediate priority for all too many. However, it's also about clothing, shelter, education, peaceful co-existence, and all that good stuff.

At least, that was my impression of what is supposed to be happening at present.

I see our efforts to give food in this case to be political and as such, the convoy is indeed a target of war.

We did not offer these services before our attacks upon the country and we make the offer now to win the hearts and minds of the citizens.

We should ask the question, Would we be willing to give the food to the Taliban to hand out to the people? Would we even be willing to give the food without the US Flag being on each package?

This has been an on going battle in the mddle east, that of feeding so many people with so few resourses, The Taliban has been powerless even as Iraq, and it's citizens have been suffering due to the direct actions of the US. The death of millions of middles eastern citizens, it's children and it's elderly are charges which many in the middle east lay at the feet of the American people.

The fact is, our goverment sees these food products as weapons of war so why shouldn't the Taliban?

While I totally agree that these people need to be feed, I think that we must understand the reasoning of the Taliban in order to work with that goverment to get the food in.

i think giving the food to the taliban to distribute would be senseless..the people would never get it. the taliban is even now breaking into UN buildings, confiscating the supplies for themselves, and beating the workers...according to the workers themselves.

no, we didn't drop food before the war, but we have been one of the major, if not the highest, contributor of foreign aid to afghanistan and many countries around the world even before the war.

in regards to iraq...their leadership is allowing their people to suffer. the sanctions allow them to sell oil to raise money for food and humanitarian aid for the people. they choose to spend it on themselves and their military...allowing their people to suffer...then blame it on the sanctions. they tend to kill some of their own citizens, too...as does the taliban.

In regards to the united states... their leadership is allowing their people to suffer. the law used to require that they collect taxes for food and welfare aid for the people. they chose to change this and spend it on their corporations and their military... allowing their 30% living in poverty to suffer... then blame it on the poor themselves. they tend to kill some of their own citizens too... cops shoot them and stick plungers up their asses and stuff... as does iraq and the taliban.
