an update...

The Town is still accepting letters, if they are postmarked by May 24. The online petition is still open, as well. (Thank you to everyone who wrote and/or signed the petition. I think it is helping!)

The Town Board and Planning Board will be looking at the issue for the next month or so, and will be making their decision sometime in July. The Woodstock Preservation Alliance has been lobbying with them to see the logic and sense of leaving the Woodstock Site unspoiled.

Although I've met with many frustrations, I feel that this is important, and will continue to work toward the preservation of that land.

Good news is that I wrote a piece as a response to an earlier article in the Middletown (NY) Times Herald-Record. My op-ed piece was published today.
http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2002/05/23/myview23.htm

As the op-ed piece says, we are not opposed to the Performing Arts Center... we just want to see that field preserved. We are hoping that the Town Board sees sense before paving paradise!

Hey Arlo... any chance of you throwing a little support behind us?

Thanks again to everyone... and if you haven't yet, there is still time to send a letter or to sign the petition.

Peace, Love, Music & ((((((HUGS)))))))

Great letter Wyldflower. You seem to have laid everything out very reasonably. I really don't see how anyone could argue with what you're saying there. Thanks again for doing all this on behalf of everyone who'd like to be able to go there at some time.

Thanks, Wyldflower, to you and the rest of the members of the WPA for fighting for this cause.. I have not had a chance to visit--and I would be one of those tourists greatly disappointed to see a development on that historic site. Good luck. (Please continue to post updates.)

Great letter, Wyld. I finally got a strong-worded yet peaceful letter off to the town of Bethel. You mentioned a request for a little support from Arlo (I hope you get it). Just curious though, what support has the Woodstock Preservation Alliance received from what notable musicians/artists so far, in joining the fight to preserve the 38 acre Woodstock site, sparing it from any commercial development?

Wyldflower, that was a great letter! We've sent a letter to Bethel and I've e-mailed friends again, with links to the Alliance site and to your letter.

Thank you so much for representing us and keeping us informed.

You can't count on Arlo reading this section. He might, but then again he might not, so if you want to get his attention, it's a better bet to post on his forum or send him and e-mail or go to a show carrying signs and banners. He'll love that.

I'd be interested to know if any other artists are getting involved in this round, too.
