What you all said. Perhaps it's better to lose this year and have a shot at 2004 than to win now and lose then. It's something to cling to, anyway. I just don't understand people like the blue-collar workers, office workers, and government employees I know who don't see that they are not billionaires or millionaires and therefore they are screwed by the Republicans often and with joy. What will it take for them to link their personal problems about their jobs, their medical care, their finances, their retirement, their children, their elderly parents, etc., etc., etc., with who is in power in this country and compare how they were doing two years ago vs. how they are doing now?

Despite the question mark, I do realize this is a rhetorical question. Just had to get it off my chest.

Sometimes I think it's just that people have a mean streak and would rather take a chance on hurting themselves as long as they're hurting someone less fortunate in the process. Or is that just bitterness talking? Not sure. What I am sure of is that the Democrats better start getting themselves together and get a cohesive message out there with the help of some new leadership. The old leadership kind of...sucks. And everyone who doesn't want a conservative, right-wing US better pacth up their differences enough to vote as a block, and of course, mainly..vote. Every time, in every election, no matter how unexciting it may seem or even how unappealing the choices may seem. Agenda, voting blocks, coalitions are all vital.

The ever-astute news media<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/looney.gif" width=15 height=15>, here anyway, are saying this means the Dems need to get MORE conservative. Wrong-o; they need to work with the Greens and court liberal independents and maybe be, like, a real party, distinctly different from the other big one.

One small bright spot ... Michigan just elected it's first female (Democrat) governor.

Cool beans, Pam! Sigh...it must be nice to live where once in a while your candidate wins! I can point to Jimmy Carter, Ann Richards, and Bill Clinton as winners I backed; other than Martin Frost (mentioned on another thread), that's about it for the 31 years I've been voting. Yea for Michigan!!! Maybe a little cold weather (or a lot) is a good thing for braincells.

I recently saw a book in a bookstore that was a book of quotes by Dubya. He really said some hilarious stuff in it. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/laugh.gif" width=15 height=15>

I was just a small boy when the WAR ON POVERTY began, I think I am still a POW of that conflect, then we had THE WAR ON DRUGS, and many of my friends are still MIA from that battle, now we have THE WAR ON TERROR, and it seems to me that we are fighting on three fronts and in each case the other side seems to be winning.

Perhaps we need to fly more flags, perhaps we need to give up more freedoms, perhaps we need new laws and new taxes, or perhaps we need to face the problems, find their roots causes and try and correct them.

War does not seem to be working.
