This time, it's 11 Texas Democrats Flee to New Mexico. It's state senators this time...Rs trying to redistrict, ostensibly to help minorities gain seats, but actually to reduce minority seats and increase Republican seats in the legislature, on orders of Tom Delay. They've already gutted anything in our state that helps actual human people instead of oil companies this year, now they want to be sure they can do even more of that in the next session. I don't know why--there's not much left that they could ruin. And this Molly Ivins column 'splains that it's not only Texas...it could be coming to your local state soon!

I guess it's we don't have to keep exporting jobs to the third world much longer, because if we don't reverse course very soon, the third world is coming to us. I love Molly Ivins.

I don't have a good feeling about the possibility of creating a workable liberal coalition to counter the right wing ALEC. We are still far too divided. Much of the division is because we believe in diversity - but it's time for us to look past our diversity, and find a true common ground. Is there a leader who can bring us together?

Now I hear that Bush decimated all the social services here when he was governor. And with more homeless and under-employed folks around here now, there's just NO help for them.

Now he's doing it to the country.

The US could use a few million (that he raises at his $2k/plate dinners) to help this country out!

Not to mention aid to all those OTHER countries.

Well folks this Texas political scene has gone over the edge. The mean spirited and petty punitive measures the Republican Senators in the Texas Senate has changed politics here forever. The days of compromise and getting things done in government here will probably never return.
So if the Rebublicans think they ever won anything in this fight , well they will look back on this as the worst thing they could have done.

didn't get to read the whole article, but apparently one of the dems (a major one apparently) broke down and returned to the scene of the crime... giving the whacked republican governor yet another hope to ram their gerrymandering agenda through the state. Where is a disgruntled state employee when ya' need one???
