Well, remember that Donovan and John Lennon were kept out of the USA for the longest time with the gov't using the excuse that they had been busted for possession of pot? Both were quite public about their anti-war stance during Viet Nam (as well as Arlo & others) and it's been public knowledge for some time now that the FBI (and, in Lennon's case, Nixon, as well) had an agenda against them. Ya gotta watch those musicians! Verrry dangerous people! Might do something scary like getting people to think.

I'd heard that about Lennon but not about Donovan. I think they have more important things to worry about than some singer smoking a little reefer... <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/peace.gif" width=16 height=16>

Uh, oh! Hope I'm not loosing my mind to the after effects of the 60's & 70's! I don't have any "hard" data on Donovan, but I remember seeing him on some early morning CBS news show quite some time ago and it was remarked that he was going through legal BS with immigration. Maybe it wasn't as big a deal as Lennon's or maybe I'm having a brain fart.

Yay! Brain not bad! Just smells funny and feels full sometimes! Donovan was busted for pot and was refused entry into the US until late 1967 causing him to miss his scheduled performance at the Monterey Pop Festival (also in 67). More details here: http://nationmaster.w2n.net/encyclopedia/Donovan

Phew! What a relief!

oh man...are you serious?! it would have been so great if he could have been there too...that was one great little gig.

speaking of keith richards...i HEAR that he'll be in the sequel and threequel of "pirates of the caribbean" playing johnny depp's character's father...that will be fun for me anyway!! i hope it's true and not some urban legend!

One of my prized possessions in my vinyl collection is an original copy of John & Yoko's 1972 Some Time in New York City album on Apple Records, complete with the "bonus" live record with Frank Zappa (a dubious bonus, indeed), a petition to stop the deportation proceedings against John, & a Business Reply Envelope addressed to The National Committee for John & Yoko for mailing said petition once it was signed. I don't know why I never signed it & sent it in.

Thanks for the info on Donovan. I got an album of him when i was a teenager at some thrift shop for 50 cents back in the 70's. I showed it to my dad & it had a pic of him as a baby in the nude in it. My dad said if my mom saw it she'd freak out over the nude pic & I better hide it. So I hid the pic that was inside the record & who knows where ut I still have that album & my Stones 8-trsanck tape I bought way back then. The Stones tape was a fun tape to annoy my parents with...
