Leoburg, Google any part of that quote and you will find no reference to it, except for this site. I find it highly unlikely anyone ever actually said that and yet managed to not have it indexed by Google. I mean, it could be a conspiracy of some kind, but I wouldn't bet on it.

That attitude is still around today. If corporations would pay a living wage, Unions would not be needed. From the 1890s book, ''The Coming Battle,'' it states in details how the banking money power took over from the start, with the 1st (so called) Bank of America, which is not much different from our currant Fed. In 1870 the people were debt free, and the banking money power did not like that, and caused as great as a depression as the 1930s.

There were "robber barons" in the 1890s and there are robber barons today. The main difference as Milton Friedman points out is, those in the 19th century made their money by selling products that people wanted. Today they make that money by confiscating it from the taxpayer. No matter what system you have, those people will always be there, but I see little point of institutionalizing it.

leoburg wrote:
Citizens criticized by tightly wound media machinery are heroes. True heroes, sleeping in the park, taking on the dark, sleeping under plastic sheets, getting arrested in the streets, surrounding the houses of criminal elites - having the courage to Occupy Wall Street. THIS is the "Change We Need". Let the right wingers pound the table and the liberal hearts bleed. The two party system is a total scam indeed. America is waking up, seeing the forest through the trees. Agreed? WE are the ones we have been waiting for. OCCUPY TOGETHER - OCCUPY WITHIN. Peace!

While I am all for protesting against injustice, I see no solution in the OWS "movement". In fact, half the time their message is incoherent. It takes more than camping out to be a hero. The man who runs his business in such a way as to remain competitive, turn a profit, and then re-invest into the market, is much more a hero to me than someone who complains from their Ipad about corporations. To me, most of OWS is about the party, not the message. Frankly, I don't see any message at all. At least with the tea parties, their message was very clear: cut spending. I have no idea what the OWS crowd wants as they just speak in vagaries about social justice and greed but offer no solutions.

That quote of the 1880 Robber Baron came from a very legit sources quite a while ago. Its the same principal that OWS-Empire's-Territory is in the Streets about.

Ya Milton says that the depression of the 30s was a myth too. Ya right! People jumping out of windows never happened...

As Arlo sang in Major Blues, ''Day will come when this country needs a helping hand, and they want mine, I'll tell him buddy just get in line. When my baby comes back crying, I'll kick that smart ass out the door. Sometimes I don't believe in nothing, sometimes I do.

OWS is going to be what the people make it. I hope we can focus on things that will help all 7 Billion Humans, flying through space on Beautiful Mother Earth.

Since we need sound money, which we have never had, lets gt out of the Fed. The best way I've hard to do that, is to follow what North Dakota has been doing fine with for 90 years, with its State Bank. Other States are studying how to do it.

If we don't fix Healthcare, the price will double in 10 years, probably with less care. Vermont's and Montana's Single Payer could very well be worth other States checking out. Just Imagine that drug companies cared more for health and less for profit.

And need we mention that ending the wars is a must. Why the hell not close all over seas Military Bases, and put the Vets, and others to work rebuilding this Broken Promised Land?

But on other thing: Communities should study how to set up the Worker Ownership of the Mondragon Cooperative, of the Basque in Spain. There is an Evergreen Cooperative in Cleveland, and Richmond California, is putting people to work by starting smaller Cooperatives. Its a better way to work. Don't we all want that?

Care to source it then?

He isn't saying the depression didn't HAPPEN, he says the reasons some people claim that caused it are myths. It was caused by bad monetary policy, not some inherent flaw of capitalism.

I am not impressed so far. Other than increasing STD's exponentially, I haven't seen any change.

I agree, end the Fed.

Every time we "fix" health care, we break it a little more.. No company will ever care about anything but profit. Single payer systems are doomed to failure. Everything Friedman predicted about socialized medicine is coming true. Here is a speech he gave at the Mayo clinic in 78:

I've seen that Robber Baron principals even fro IBEW Shops around the country.

Yes the monetary system is a problem, but there is nothing inherently righteous of capitalism, any more than there is anything evil about true socialism.

We didn't get in this mess overnight, so we are not getting out in 6 months.

''You can find numerous pundits explaining the inevitability of disaster and the impending collapse due to the loss of national financial sovereignty to transnational banking cartels. A world at peace would have solved problems or be actively working on solving them.''-man named Jay from Willie Nelson's Peace Research Institute Site

http://www.care2.com/news/member/406091837/3090653

''Now there are no more foreign lands to convert to the capitalistic system. Global banking interests and global transnational energy cartels have restructured money and oil independent of any national interests. We are living through a total restructuring of world power, for most of us, the transition may not be smooth.''-man named Jay from Willie Nelson's Peace Research Institute Site

If we don't get the profit out of Healthcare, the cost will more than double in 10 years. Being ranked 37th in the world sucks. Its Reagan that sowed the seeds of this mess, when he privatized what had mainly been a not for profit system.

So I assume you have no source for it then?

leoburg wrote:

I disagree. Socialism removes rewards, a life without rewards is a life without goals. I life without goals is a fruitless life. There would be no innovation because there would be no incentive to innovate. So yet, it is inherently evil.

That is ludicrous.

If you don't have any profit in healthcare, then nobody will provide it. Are you going to work for free as a doctor? How are you going to feed your family Dr. Leoburg if you do not make a profit being a doctor. I'm sorry, but that is lala-land logic.

Is this the OWS we are talking about?

http://freebeacon.com/obama-to-mingle-w ... -nyc-gala/

Quote:
The Obama Victory Fund 2012 will host the event at ABC Carpet & Home in Manhattan’s upscale Flatiron District, according to the official online invitation. Special guests are expected to include hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, New Age self-help guru Deepak Chopra, and culinary bigwig Jean-Georges Vongerichten, among others.

Prospective partygoers can choose from three levels of tickets, “Event Chair” ($35,800), “Event Host” ($10,000), or for those with shallower pockets, “Gala Attendee” ($1,000 a piece).

Their massive wealth notwithstanding, Simmons and Chopra were both vocal supporters of the “Occupy” movements, and were named to TheBlaze.com’s list of the “Top Ten Richest Celebrities Supporting ‘Occupy Wall Street.’”

No one in the world is saying Health Care people are going to work for nothing. Go ahead and keep up your suport for Big Pharma and Insurance and the cost will double with less care in 10 years. It was Reagan who sowed those seeds when he privatized what was mainly a not for profit system.

Are you saying hospitals, health insurance companies, and doctors were all non-profit before Ronald Reagan took office? This is a new one for me.

That Robber Barron quote came from readings in the 1990s, from a legit source so there was no need to question it. The point I'll make, is that same bs is still going on today. True socialism is Worker Owned Cooperatives. I'll take them over your greedy, slimy corporations raping this earth and its people for profit ant no matter what the cost.

I said clearly it was ''mainly'' a not for profit Health Care system. That does not mean they were slaves working for nothing.

I said Reagan sowed the seeds of this whole mess we are now in, or rather meant to say that.

Leo, (is Leo ok?)

Ever hear the saying "Question everything"? I am sorry, but I can find no record of anyone except you saying this. I am more than willing to accept a source, but pretend you are sitting in my seat, and then read what you wrote above..

And coops are just as capable of raping the earth for profit.

I thought people were beyond generalizations and stereotypes these days but apparently not. ALL corporations are slimy evil earth rapers and all coops are mother earth loving socialists.

Leo, I was alive then. Health care as ALWAYS been a for profit system. Profit is a GOOD thing. The desire to create and expand profit is a GREAT thing. I BEG of you, please watch this:

What seeds? Do you have any specifics here?

Reagan did privatize many Church run Hospitals. The religious right loved him. THE-MEDIA-RIGHT-STORM that they started, had no one in 1994 minding their own business, and it exploded on me. Those late 90s dark days are long gone, that damn near cost me my life. When Reagan started breaking the Unions in the name of smaller govt, he screwed up royally. Can't recall what book that Robber Barron quote came from. But I still see that greedy attitude going on all of the time. Its too many issues now over it, that is tough for OWS to unite on any common ground except the greed of the 1% which Reagan sowed the seeds of.

''During my 20 years as a health insurance PR executive, I was involved in numerous efforts to make the very term "single payer" toxic to most Americans. We even spent hundreds of thousands of premium dollars in 2007 to help finance the operation of a front group, called Health Care America, for the sole purpose of trashing a movie -- Michael Moore's "Sicko" -- that put single payer systems abroad in a favorable light. You can rest assured that the industry will spend much, much more to make sure that Vermont does not succeed.''-Article on Vermont's Single Payer

This doesn't make any sense at all, and I have read it three times. Church hospitals by their very definition ARE private hospitals. I have no idea what you are talking about here: "THE-MEDIA-RIGHT-STORM that they started, had no one in 1994 minding their own business, and it exploded on me." That is possibly the most disjointed sentence I have ever seen. I am not even sure how to respond other than to say Reagan was long out of office by 1994.

I think I will just stop here..
