"The Ed Show." -''The Republican war on workers, it just continues. as we reported, once before, one of the latest targets is of all things, The Post Office . An American Institution. The Post Office is in a little bit of trouble but they can get out of it. Republicans say it declined traditional mail has been a big reason why the Post Office is losing money. But it's more than that. during a 2006 lame duck session of congress, republicans passed a law requiring the postal service to pre-fund, that means ahead of schedule, health care benefits for future retirees, 75 years worth of pensions over a 10 year span. Now what kind of business would sign up for a plan like that? If you run a small business , can you ask yourself the honest question tonight, would you do that? Probably not. Republicans have one goal in mind when it comes to the Post Office , privatization. The Post Office costs taxpayers nothing, zip. zero, nada, nothing. It doesn't add to the deficit, but because it's considering a -- it's basically considered a quasi- Government Agency the GOP wants to take the ax to it. Don't want any obligation. Bernie Sanders has come up with a plan to not only save the American institution but creative ideas. he thought of a few creative solutions to expand the Postal Services existing services like this. Under Senator Sanders plan, you can get a few cool ones delivered right to your doorstep. Right now you have to go through the private sector to do that. but, why can't the post office do this? Sounds good to me. joining me now is Senator Sanders of Vermont. Good to have you with us i'm sorry i didn't pick the Vermont beer up there but at least I have the good union stuff here, Miller Lite . Is the beer delivery and some other things a way that could really turn around the postal service ? What are you proposing?

These same kind of people are for the Defense Industry, cause it profits their Corporate Masters, even though it does add $Billions or more to the deficit. And when in reality, The Military is the largest form of Socialism on the planet, with its free rent, food and Healthcare. Do our soldiers really want anything that the people don't also have? I think not. (Not that I am implying that anyone wants anything for free.) I can see these same GOPs wanting to privatize The Police and Firemen so that they are out to make a profit.

I have already refuted this, but I am kinda tired of a one sided conversation.. Here is how you like to "discuss things":

You: I just bought a new pair of jeans
Me: Really? I like jeans! What kind did you get?
You: I think the Mets should fire their manager
Me: Nah, they just need more pitching don't you think?
You: My favorite color is red.
Me: Hello?

You refuted nothing. The GOP is out to break one of the last good Unions, or Bernie Sanders and ED would not be talking about this. The Post Office is trying to get out of what has them $5 billion in the red, for the next 10 years. That's having to fund HC for the next 75 years, within the next 10. That is reality of the bs the GOP is about.

Oh Defense is ok for it profits corporations. Even if it is the largest form of socialism on the planet. After (not likely.) that the Post Office is privatized, police and fireman will be out to make a profit too.

They don't have to fund for the next 75 years as you say, I refuted that earlier. Shall I point it out again?

http://www.cnbc.com/id/45018432/The_Tru ... ncial_Mess

Quote:
"The confusion over 75 years may be due to an "accounting" and not an "actuarial or funding" issue. They only have to fund the future liability of their current or former workforce. This would include some actuarial estimate about the mortality rates of their current workers (I.e. how long they live). So a 25 year old worker would have an average life expectancy (from birth) of 78.7 years. Thus, they would have to project future retiree health benefits for this individual up to about 54 years in the future.

But for accounting purposes they must estimate the future liability over a 75 year period (according to OPM financial accounting guidelines). In this case, they would make some assumptions about new entrants into the workforce and addresses your second question.

Theoretically, these new entrants could include someone who is not born yet. While they have to account for these future liabilities on their financial statements they do not have to fund them if they are not related to their current or former workforce."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There is where I refuted it.. You apparently did not read that part and just moved along. You see how I quote each of your points and then offer a response? That is generally how you reply to a debate.

Hell even if it was 75 years (which it isn't), gee, imagine forcing an organization to fulfill it's promises?

Police and fireman do make a profit, just like anyone else who cashes a paycheck. Unions make huge profits and then give a lot of that money back to the politicians who are in the pockets of evil corporations. I happen to have a couple politicians in my pocket right now. It makes it hard to get through typical TSA screenings, but that is the price we pay to be evil I guess..

Earning a living at a public sector job, or any labor, is not making a profit. That is income, which was never suppose to be taxed. It was profit that was suppose to be taxed. (Though the book about that was a long time ago...in the early 80s.)

The Post Office is not out to make a profit, so that is evil to you. Even if it hasn't collected 1 cent in tax payer money in decades and was written into the Constitution, for it was a need back then. If your kind end up privatizing the Post Office, Police and Fireman will be next collecting fees for what ever...

How can you defend having a Defense, but not a Post Office, both of which are written into The Constitution? You wanna privatize Defense next? Your kind probably would.

I''ll parafraze Teddy Roosevelt (Who I am sure you will find some fault with...as your kind loves to do) We are not against wealth, but we are against profits that come at the expense of a better Society, while destroying Mother Earth.

The American Military, with its free rent, food and Healthcare is the largest form, of the socialism you are against, on the planet.

What Russia and China gave a bad name to Marx with, was nothing about what him an Engels were about.

When Engels wrote this, ''From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,'' he was not talking about a Totalitarian Govt enforcing it. He was only talking about the good from people's hearts, or at least that is, and should be, how it would, and should be applied to help right now. That is not much different than how the first saints held all things in common.

Yeah, that was long time ago.. Your labor is your product. There is no difference when you sell your time, or you sell your oil. Profit is profit. Try using your ideas next time you fill out a tax form in the US (if you ever have).

BTW, I hear the fireman in Belgium just shot water cannons at the police..

Lots of things were written in the Constitution and then removed. The Post Office is a function of government, just like maintaining battleships was a function of government. Notice there are no battleships anymore?

A better society is in the eye of the beholder. I would not stop anyone from starting a coop like you want to. If coops were beating capitalistic businesses on an equal playing field, I would have no problem with it. Your kind on the other hand wants to outright ban capitalism. It is your way or no other way, and if you resist, off to the gas chamber or gulag.

You are a fool.

There is no better way than local Coopertives to bring good jobs back to America.

What ever made you think I would want DC to force that on anyone comes from the nonsense of your closed mind's eyes.

Oh but we do hope someday that THE GIANT MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX, is as outdated as you feel that The Post Office is today.

Then how come you don't see a coop around ever corner? You want to know why? Because traditional capitalistic companies smoke them. They produce products and services at lower costs because they pay wages people will accept, not what some socialist demands. Coops will only work if you outlaw or regulate away, capitalistic enterprise.

And I hope someday every military company in the world withers on the vine because of lack of demand.

Last we have heard of our greatest, exports, is jobs to over seas. That might have been what did in Wang (a really good Electronic (non union) company in Massatack, back in the day, of 70s to 90. Oh Digital there, was called ''The Family Company'' for until it made the mistake of not building the Personal Computer hadn't laid one person off in over 30 years.

If the Govt and MSM were looking out for the people, Coops would be brought up as part of the solution. But both MSM and DC are controlled by their Corporate Owners. Well, we know DC should serve the better interest. The internet will do the service of educating people, that the TV could have always done.

My IBEW 588, in my early 20s wiring days of the early 80s, had no large shops. We worked for out of town Shops, on the local Building Projects. But if we could have, we would have had our own Shop. Problem with that was, we couldn't invest our pension fund into our selves. It was against the law. We could have organized that whole City of Lowell. (nay. just kidding on that part)

Arlo singing Harry Bridges, of a Woody song. Me should have heard of Harry before this video came out just over a year ago.

If I was you, I wouldn't use Wang to prove a point about successful economics....

Oh, I brought up Wang and Digital as 2 examples of good, non union companies, of which, if all companies were as good to their workers as them, there would never have been a need for Unions. The IBEW Wired all of their buildings and that is not what put them out of business. Remember working a Wang wiring project... and ran into a kid I went to school with... who said at age 25, he had over 40 grand in the profit sharing of the work. Am not sure what sent those jobs over seas but Unions had nothing what so ever to do with it.

Piss poor management destroyed the company.

Unions are the reason why there are so few manufacturing jobs in this country. It really isn't rocket science. If you raise the cost of production, you pass that cost on to the consumer. If a competitor, say, a Chinese company, produces the same product cheaper, the consumer will buy from them. Employees are a cost in the production cycle, just like anything else. Unions raise costs, lowering the competitive edge of the company. It also tends to lower the value of its stock and/or dividends which makes it less attractive.

The "union wage" is artificial, just like the minimum wage. When used in a world economy, it becomes a serious disadvantage.
