Between Obama and Edwards, Obama is definitely the Mannish man of the two, so you must be for an Edwards / Obama Ticket?

Actually, with the polls showing Obama way ahead of Edwards in NH, it may end up being the other way around ... Obama/Edwards. Guess I'll have to take the Kerry/Edwards sticker off my car. I do see an Obama/Edwards ticket working... an urban northerner, and a 'good old boy' from the south... and NEITHER of them from New York (I just plain don't like Hillary... never did... didn't vote for her for NY Senator).

I have my doubts whether either of them would accept the offer of the vice presidency at this point... they've got too much riding on their bid for the top spot. Bill Bradley just endorsed Obama.... he could be an interesting vp choice.

Hillaryitus. I think she suffers from the dykish hair and the women’s business suits (they don’t look good on anybody). She looks like a reject from The L Word caste. She suffers from lack of personality because she tries to sale herself as the woman who can play in a man’s game (the problem being is she is following their rules). I think she needs to reject all that phony conformist crap and redefine herself in a “woman of the people” kinda of way. Sorta move toward a Ronald Reagan approach to public image if that makes since. Instead of Flannel shirts and chopping wood, she could where a nice brightly colored blouse and work in the garden. Can’t you just picture her and Bill bending over together picking weeds and pulling stones? As they fertilize they can discuss the Huckabee situation!

You know, after her years in the White House, you would have thought that Hillary would have figured out that it is not what you say or if it is true or not, it is how you say it! another thing she could learn from Ronnie!

So did you folks get an explanation of the caucus? If not, I'll try to give an explanation of the Iowa process as best I can. I caucused in Iowa for the first time- and it was quite an experience! It's a lengthy process and I think maybe other states are slightly different...

OK, I'll do my best. In the IA caucus, people meet to choose delegates. Each precinct is assigned a certain number of delegates (according to the number of registered voters?) and the delegates are divided up proportionally between the candidates according to how the people vote. Sorta like an electoral college- you’re choosing representatives. The precinct delegates go on to district and state levels. The two parties have separate caucuses at the same time in different places. I think the Republican caucus is a simple secret ballot vote.

In the Democratic caucus, the actual vote is a public process and more complicated. There are no voting booths or ballots and the whole thing is conducted in public. You have to stand up in front of your neighbors and vote for your candidate by standing in groups .

First people from the entire area or district meet together and there’s a chance for people to make a speech for their choice. I think anyone can step up to the mic , but they gave each candidate the same total amount of “airtime”. Then the large group separated into smaller precincts in different rooms. Someone is chosen to be the ring leader. There’s a head count and the minimum number of people to meet “viability” is determined. They put a sign for each candidate along the edges of the room.

The people all get up and literally go stand up for the candidate of their choice in groups under the signs. If a candidate doesn’t have at least 15% of the total voters in the room, they are considered nonviable, their group is dissolved and their candidate will get no delegates from that precinct. Those people can choose a second choice candidate to join, can gather together to help a candidate get enough folks (if they can agree!) or just sit out the rest of the game.

Then the real “fun” begins! There is then a 30 min period for “realignment” period. People are eyeballing each other, talking amongst each other, cajoling, bribing, wheeling and dealing. More opining and speechifying and stuff like “You’ve got more than enough people. If your group won’t give our group enough people to meet viability, we’ll go over to your opponent’s group and give them more votes.”

After the 30 min realignment, there’s a final head count and the total delegates are divided up according to the percentages of people iin the final groups. There’s a meeting afterwards to discuss party platform and anyone can attend to put in their 2cents worth. Most folks seemed to go home, have a cold one and watch the results on TV

Sorry this was such a long post, but it's not a simple thing to explain. My personal experience caucusing in a tiny rural precinct was…umm. ..interesting. It wasn't representative of the state outcome and I saw pressure, intimidation and namecalling affect the outcome. There were a lot of great people and a few not so great people. It was a day we'll never forget.

So, in a nutshell, it's a smokey backroom out in the open.
