I always liked here and Bill. I did... he answered one letter which I sent 2 to both them. It took me 3 or 4 months to write a one page letter. It was my first attempt at writing of any kind. (Because I saw the fruits... of some's ways in 1994, and I was pissed as hell at the MEDIA-RIGHT STORM...)

Louise, yes, the anti - Hillary people are out there, the other day I heard a report of a heckler yelling out at a Clinton rally, " Iron my shirt". Fortunately, Hillary is above all this and although it saddens me as a woman (and a feminist), I encourages me that in today's day that remark makes the heckler look like he's been living under a rock, whereas 20 years ago, it may have been taken as inflammatory.

It seems to me that Hillary never ran as a woman. At least she didn't openly wave the feminist banner. She, it seems to me, wants to be elected on her accomplishments and vision. I put it in a different thread, she isn't asking for women to vote for her simply because we share a gender.


One thing I would like to add, is that if ever there was an example of civility and respect for differences in political opinion, it is here.

Sadly, what Arnie said is more truth than funny around here. Doesnt this go all the way back to the first year the Clinton were in the White house, and they forced her to be filmed making cookies (to soften her image and not seem like she actually had a roll other than hostess).

The worst thing Ive seen was a cartoon showing Obama looking at a sign pointing towards the "white" house and he is saying - Well, that's the FIRST thing we'll change. In the northeast, from what Im witnessing, they are alot harder on race then gender. I was quite surprised at a conversation I had with Ceashell when she told me by her, there were those who hated powerful woman as much, if not more, than black men.

Although I do have a lot of respect for Obama, I do think his campaign has used the race card A LOT more than Clinton used the woman issue to draw voters.

But he's not my problem...

Im sick and tired of hearing - we need someone new &/or why would we go back to the old way of doing things? My question is why wouldnt we want to go back to the way things were.

DOES anyone remember how great things were when the Clintons were in office? HUGE budget surplus, low unemployment...etc. Of all the fabulous things he/they did (and by they I just dont mean Bill and Hill) It is so sad to think of what they could have accomplished if not diverted by the national obsession of other peoples zippers.

WHY wouldnt I want it to go back to the way it was? Bring on more of the same. Those were terrific years and I want them back - only better, older and more accomplished. And if Bill does contribute - WOW two incredibly intelligent people (seems only fair to make up for the 1/2 brained moron we've had for the last 7 years)

In the states that allows registered republicans to vote in either primary, the Obama camp proudly announced that many republican's voted for him.

In my opinoin, they want him to get nominated, because they know he doesnt not have the or political base of experience that Clinton does. He will be easier to beat.

How many people voted for W' just because he was supposedly a moral change from slick willie. So instead of a public bj (and no one says that W's above any of that - he just never got caught...he's probably blowing his horse when nobodys lookin), he's murdered 4000 kids. That's the change we got - just for the sake of change.

Why go for CHANGE when we can have it back to being GREAT with the Clintons?

I'd be glad to see a woman win but I guess it's more the UNDERDOG slant that makes me take her side.
If Obama had been around for decades (since the late 60's)and had had to put up with the S**T she's had to (like the cookie baking thing etc) and had fought his way to his present level (for him it would have been race stuff of course!) and she was a young new kid on the block, I would see him as the UNDERDOG and would probably be for him now.

Obama has been from the South Side of Chicago, so he can handle anything thrown his way.

I swear with more style and grace than Hillary has shown/from about a month to 6 weeks ago. (though she has lightened up)

According to Wikpedia - Barack Obama was "born in Honolulu, Hawaii", and "spent most of his early life there". Hawaii - Home of that notorious tough guy Don Ho.

I believe that Obama learned how to behave with "style and grace" from his mother and grandparents in Hawai'i (and a bit of toughness from his step-father in Indonesia)... but he also learned to be tough, while maintaining the lessons learned early in life, when he arrived in Chicago as a young adult. He spent over three years working to improve the neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago (the "baddest part of town") before going to Harvard Law... and he still lives in that area.

So actually, both Reg and Leo are right....

I have been thinking about "grace" for a couple of weeks, now, especially as in, gracious loser. I just wanted to say that I think Wyde is right , both sides are right.

I wasnt trying to be right,(or gracious) just factual. Sounded a bit propaganda-ish to repeat Sen Obama was "from the south side of Chicago", when he didnt get there until he was 20. Working there as an adult, for 3+ years, still doesn't mean he's "from" there . There a thousands that work in NY everyday, some even live there, but arent and never will be real New Yorkers. And certainly, if he is actually living there now - with two excellent salaries, Im sure they don't live in the projects.

I also very much questioned the inference of people from the South side of Chicago being basically tough (baddest part of town?) Being raised in the wrong side of the Bronx myself, I know that there are gentle souls there - grandmothers, children, people trying to earn livings and raise their kids. Just like anywhere else. Isnt assuming people are any one thing or another, because of where they are from, is its own form of racism?

Anyway - the way it sounded to me - and pardon me if Im wrong, it was like Leo was saying Sen Obama rose from like a pheonix as a child of the ghetto where he had to get tough - above the usual inhabitants -to Harvard Law, when actually he had a fairly middle class upbringing. Again - he seems like a nice and impressive guy & Harvard law is still very impressive, but its not like he lived in a box till he got there.

I only said that Obama was from the south side of Chicago. Mainly in reference to a J Giels song. I have been to the south side of Chicago myself; so I could say I am from there; like Union wirenuts I've known who say they are far from where ever their homes are...
I'm from California too, not that I was born there. (i was only trying to give Obama a song or 2 to add to the fall of Bush...which is less than 300 days I hear. Maybe Someday, the steel rail will know who he is?)
