Does this story piss anyone else off?

And I'm not even a New Yorker! But I am a preservationist, and I hate losing our history and culture to clowns in this manner:

Well, that does it. NYC has become a parody of itself at best. Times Square looks like a cross between a Vegas type strip and some kind of Disney concoction..which makes sense, I guess because Disney owns it. The Village is totally mainstream. The Madison Avenue shops have given way to the same stores you see in any mall. Fifth Avenue still has things like Cartier's and Bergdorf's but it shares a street with the NBA Store and what seems like dozens of other stores that sell things that advertise some corporate entity and have no particular reason for existing at all. The Upper West Side is totally expensive and all chic about itself. The Checks Cashed Here places have given way to toney salad bar/greengrocers and outdoor/indoor cafes. There's about a one block area around St.Mark's Place that still seems like the same city - only of course it's very expensive there, too, now and the same sorts of people don't live there as before. They just still have some reasonably cool shops. Also, oddly enough, there's a diner by Lincoln Center with reasonable prices and it's perfectly nice. Go figure.

In reality, I guess things always change, but these days it seems like everything's changing in the direction of everything being alike, everywhere.
