the social conservative "movement" seems to hold that liberty is ok so long as you follow THEIR moral code. The vain attempt to legislate morality seems to destroy liberty rather than preserve it.
And it does tend to buy votes from the weak minded.

This is a tough year. Lost my cousin to cancer. My 76 year old father in law is a great man. He has replaced my out of state father for the last 30 years. Dad has prostate cancer that has now spread to his spine. He just had a heart valve replacement a few weeks ago.

We are lucky to be a close and supportive family, filled with love. But this is not easy. Being so close cuts both ways.

Good News: My co-worker Bob told me his wife got his vote. By which he meant that he will be voting for Obama. What sent him over was Palin.

When I say Obama you say Ayers. Can I get a What?, What. Ha, Laugh with me if you saw the SNL skit I'm refering to. Humor helps right now.

But, what is really on my mind is a worry about after the election. I fear a backlash. Random racial violence. I pray not.

Am I alone is seeing this coming?

I think that there's already a lot of random racial violence now! We've got to get Obama elected first and foremost. We cannot succumb to fear about what might happen in the future---the future is always uncertain. And the alternative is totally unacceptable.....I think we can be fairly certain of the dangers we will face if these republican idiots somehow get elected!!!

I have indirectly heard the hate spewed from some at the m/p gatherings. When they lose, and I strongly feel now they will lose, will those hateful feelings erupt? When the seeds of hatred are sown, I'm guessing some will sprout. If I'm alone in this fear, then maybe I am wrong and it won't happen. If I'm right, how can we prevent this tragedy of innocent people being harmed?

I don't believe that there will be any great outbreak of violence. Prejudice and bigotry are, unfortunately, alive and flourishing. But this election is an important step in the right direction. If the election turns out the way I hope it will, I think that some people will finally figure out that the country (or world) isn't going to end because some one other than a white guy is president.

I remember, not too long ago, that the mere mention of "gay" sent some people (mostly young males in need of anger management) into violent tirades. Well, now we have the "Don't ask/don't tell" thingy going in the military and a few states (here in Connecticut now, due to a State Supreme Court ruling) have made same sex marriages a done deal. Our hetero military folks aren't getting sexually assaulted in the foxhole (Hmm! That could be a double entendre there!) and don't have to worry about droppin' their soap in the communal showers and our civilians here in CT haven't had to worry about the collapse of civilization because the two nice young men or women who share an apartment down the street got hitched. It's pretty obvious, now, to most any one whose synapses are firing that we've got more to fear from the business-as-usual government and corporate America.

Nope! A mixed ethnicity president ain't gonna end the white supremest groups or prejudice or bigotry or stupidity. But it might give a few people second thoughts about them (well, maybe not the stupidity thing). And it might even make a few realize that we're all on the same level. It's a start. I'm gonna embrace it.
