Tangerine

Jimmy Page

Measuring a summer's day
Only find it slips away to gray
The hours they bring me pain

Tangerine, tangerine,
Living reflection from a dream
I was her love, she was my queen
And now a thousand years between

Thinking how it used to be
Does she still remember times like these
To think of us again...and I do

Tangerine, tangerine,
Living reflection from a dream
I was her love, she was my queen
And now a thousand years between

Dearest Joe:

Down in the meadow in an itty bitty poo,
Fam three liddle fiddies and a mommy fiddie too.
"Fim" said the momma fiddie, "Fim if you can"
And they fam and they fam right over the dam.

Boop boop ditem datem whatem choo.
Boop boop ditem datem whatem choo.
Boop boop ditem datem whatem choo.
And they fam and they fam right over the dam.

Star, you're a living jukebox of nonsensical ditties. I'll get even with you for this someday.......

(Father) It's not time to make a change.
Just relax; take it easy.
You're still young. That's your fault.
There's so much you have to know.
Find a girl. Settle down.
If you want, you can marry.
Look at me; I am old, but I'm happy.
I was once like you are now.
And I know that it's not easy to become
When you're found something going on.
But take your time.
Think a lot; think of everything you've got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

(Son) How can I try to explain?
When I do he turns away again.
It's always been the same
Same old story.
From the moment I could talk
I was ordered to listen.
There's a way, and I know
That I have to go away.

All the times that I've cried,
Keeping all the things I knew inside.
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree.
But it's them they know.
Not me.
There's a way, and I know
That I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

~Cat Stevens

It speaks for itself.

Desmond has a barrow in the market place,
Molly is a singer with the band
Desmond says to Molly, "Girl, I Like your face,"
And Molly says this while she takes him by the hand,

"Ob-la-di Ob-la-da, life goes on, braaaaa,
Lala how the life goes on
Ob-la-di Ob-la-da, life goes on, braaaaa,
Lala how the life goes on"

Well, Star, at least this time you picked a nonsensical ditty that I like. I've always wondered, however, why the Beatles mention a bra after they say "life goes on." Are they talking to a bra? Or is it some Fruedian thing?

ESKIMO BLUE DAY
(Music by Grace Slick, Lyrics by Paul Kantner & Grace Slick)

SNOW CUTS LOOSE FROM THE FROZEN
UNTIL IT JOINS WITH THE AFRICAN SEA
IN MOVING IT CHANGES ITS COLD AND ITS NAME
THE REASON I COME AND GO IS THE SAME

ANIMAL GAME FOR ME
YOU CALL IT RAIN
BUT THE HUMAN NAME
DOESN'T MEAN SHIT TO A TREE

IF YOU DON'T MIND HEAT IN YOUR RIVER
FORKED TONGUE TALKING FROM ME
SWIM LIKE AN EEL FANTASTIC SNAKE
TAKE MY LOVE WHEN IT'S FREE

ELECTRIC FEEL WITH ME
YOU CALL IT LOUD
BUT THE HUMAN CROWD
DOESN'T MEAN SHIT TO A TREE

CHANGE THE STRINGS AND NOTES SLIDE
CHANGE THE BRIDGE AND STRING SHIFT DOWN
SHIFT THE NOTES AND BRIDGE SINGS

FIRE EATING PEOPLE
RISING TOYS OF THE SUN
ENERGY DIES WITHOUT BODY WARM
ICICLES RUIN YOUR GUN

WATER MY ROOTS THE NATURAL THING
NATURAL SPRING TO THE SEA
SULPHUR SPRINGS MAKE MY BODY FLOAT
LIKE A SHIP MADE OF LOGS FROM A TREE

REDWOODS TALK TO ME
SAY IT PLAINLY
THE HUMAN NAME
DOESN'T MEAN SHIT TO A TREE

SNOW CALLED WATER GOING VIOLENT
DAMN THE END OF THE STREAM
TOO MUCH COLD IN ONE PLACE BREAKS
THAT'S WHY YOU MIGHT KNOW WHAT I MEAN

CONSIDER HOW SMALL YOU ARE
COMPARED TO YOUR SCREAM
THE HUMAN DREAM
DOESN'T MEAN SHIT TO A TREE

thanks todd.. take just about any lyric from Blows Against the Empire and it's a classic post-60's trip!

Hide witch hide!
The good folks come to burn thee...
Their keen enjoyment hid behind,
a gothic mask of duty!

They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot.

~Joni Mitchell

Although it is a part one of her more well-known songs, and although we've probably heard it many times, I feel that it ALWAYS proves an excellent point.

That one really hits HOME, Kat!

On Joni's "HITS" album, "Big Yellow Taxi" is followed by her song, "Woodstock"... interesting juxtaposition...

This brings up one of my concerns, what with Alan Gerry having bought the original Woodstock site, and building a performing arts center on the next field... I've been working with The Woodstock Preservation Alliance to ensure that the 37.5 acre field is not destroyed in the process...

Image Other comments on the subject can be directed to the "Woodstock: The Movie" thread (so as not to get too far off topic here)

the little creatures run in from the cold
back to the nest just like the days of old
they're in the safety of a mother's arms
the warmth of ages far away from harm
again.

ears ringin from the battle fire
the tired warrior aims a little higher
the black falcon or the little sparrow
the healing life or the flash of a barrel

no one wins, it's a war of man
no one wins, it's a war of man

AT SEVENTEEN
Janis Ian

"I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired.
The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth.
And those of us with ravaged faces
Lacking in the social graces
Desperately remained at home
Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say come dance with me
and murmured vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems
At seventeen.
A brown eyed girl in hand me downs
Whose name I never could pronounce
said, Pity please the ones who serve
They only get what they deserve.
The rich relationed hometown queen
Married into what she needs
A guarantee of company
And haven for the elderly.
Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
Indebentures of quality
And dubious integrity.
Their small town eyes will gape at you
in dull surprise when payment due
Exceeds accounts received
At seventeen.
To those of us who know the pain
Of valentines that never came,
And those whose names were never called
When choosing sides for basketball.
It was long ago and far away
The world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave for free
To ugly duckling girls like me.
We all play the game and when we dare
To cheat ourselves at solitaire
Inventing lovers on the phone
Repenting other lives unknown
That call and say, come dance with me
and murmur vague obscenities
At ugly girls like me
At seventeen."

Not 1, but 2 songs dedicated to my buddy Nathen:

"Roy Rogers"
by Elton John & Bernie Taupin

Sometimes you dream,
Sometimes it seems,
There's nothing there at all.
You just seem older than yesterday,
And you're waitin' for tomorrow to call.
You draw to the curtains,
And one thing's for certain,
You're cozy in your little room.
The carpet's all paid for, God bless the TV!
Let's go shoot a hole in the moon!

Roy Rogers is riding tonight,
Returning to our silver screen,
Comic book characters never grow old,
Evergreen heroes whose stories are told.
Oh, the great sequin cowboy
Who sings of the plains,
Of roundups, & rustlers, & home on the range.
Turn on the TV, shut out the lights.
Roy Rogers is riding tonight!

Nine o'clock mornings,
Five o'clock evenings.
I'd liven the pace if I could.
I'd rather have ham in my sandwich than cheese,
But complainin' won't do any good.
Lay back in my armchair,
Close eyes & think clear.
I can hear hoofbeats ahead.
Roy & Trigger have just hit the hilltop
While the wife & the kids are in bed.

"Happy Trails" by Dale Evans

Happy trails to you
Until we meet again.
Happy trails to you,
Keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song & bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you
Till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts;
Here's a happy one for you.
