What a great Book Club meeting! Friends showed (like they said they would) and we got off to a very good start. Tonights meeting made me really glad I stuck to my guns. Things don't always start out smoothly, but this meeting couldn't have gone better! I sort of missed my friends from the old club, but sure was pleased to meet new friends. & hopefully in the future even more folks will show up.

I just finished reading the last part of the book... Rooney is definitely clear that this is HIS personal memory of the war... thus the title "MY WAR"...

Nathen, you made your point defending Patton... but my comment a day or two ago was that ROONEY said Patton was a pompous ass... I didn't say I agreed... or that I disagreed... I acknowledge that I don't know enough about the war or about Patton to have my own opinion...

Rooney is entitled to his opinion, and I mentioned it because many people look at Patton in that same light... and thought it would garner some comment... see... I was right, you commented, and commented, and commented some more! (and you are certainly entitled to your opinion as well)

But Rooney didn't claim that this book was accurate history... he stated many times that this was HIS OWN memory of things...

So there now!

by Peter Braunstein (Editor), Michael William Doyle (Editor)Editor</A>

Michael Doyle had been hired by the Gerry Foundation to provide information as to the significance of the Woodstock Site... and when he learned the changes in the plans, he joined the Woodstock Preservation Alliance, and provided us with a great deal of help in preparing our application to the National Historic Trust to be named one of the 11 Most Endangered Historic Sites of 2003.

Since a part of our talk about the Rooney book involved our own Counter-Culture and Anti-War beliefs, I was wondering if we could consider this book for our next book club. I'll be reading it anyway!

Wyld, I checked out the chapter titles on Amazon.com--looks like it might have been ShannonO's textbook last year, or something like it. That's a tickle!
