Molly is on her third round of fighting cancer, and has only been able to write one column in the last few months. Becky O'Malley at the Berkeley Daily Planet is starting a festschrift, “a volume of writings by different authors presented as a tribute or memorial especially to a scholar,” saying, "...And now it really is up to us. While Molly is sick, the rest of us will have to carry her 'old-fashioned newspaper campaign.' " She is asking for journalists from all over to write articles to be posted, copyright-free, on the site.

Molly's wit and wisdom will be missed. The best tribute I can think to give her would be to take her last column to heart, and MAKE NOISE to stop the insane war. Remember... WE ARE THE DECIDERS.

She was a friend and mentor and will be sorely missed.

She was one of the best columnists out there, She had that straight-talking no nonsense Texas way about her. Her death is our loss, and yes, Molly, WE ARE THE DECIDERS.

I bet you are thinking of Aunt Molly Jackson. Woody Guthrie called her "one of America's best native ballad singers." I'm not familiar with her work, (she died in 1960) but information about her can be found at http://xroads.virginia.edu/~MA05/luckey/amj/amjmain.htm
