does anyone know of a good way to get rid of mice? For some reason the little buggers don't want to go in the little boxes with peanut butter, cheezits or anything else. We got a couple that way and had fun taking them down to the field and letting them go, but the few that are left will have nothing to do with them. There is a rat, a hamster and a rabbit that are invited family members so I can't get those sonic repellants. And when they're taught to get along with your dog, the dog thinks any animal within your house is a friend. And I just hate those glue traps. Any suggestions?

Get a cat? We live on the edge of a woods and meadow area, and I've seen blacksnakes in the yard that are six feet long and as big around as my arm. They're eating a lot of rodents, to get that big! I've seen mouse holes in the flower beds in the spring (they burrow into the mulch) so I know there's a large mouse population. We've never had a problem with mice, not even in the garage or basement... but we've always had a couple of cats. They're strictly house pets (we also have a very healthy fox population) and the mice don't seem real interested in coming in. I'm sure the cats would be real happy if one did come in, tho! No stray wandering bug or spider that comes in lasts long here. Cats, pet rats and rabbits can learn to get along okay.

Adorn your house with pictures of George Bush and Dick Cheney and play recordings of the Rush Limbaugh radio show. That should be enough to have any thinking mammal wish to leave on it's own, even with mouse size brains.

If they just happen to be republican mice, play some Yoko Ono records if the hamsters can stand it.

We've got seven lazy cats livin' in the house and we still had mice! I got a bunch of those plug-in, ultra-sonic rodent repeller thingies and put 'em in the places where we had the most problems (basement, kitchen, mud room, and laundry room) and it seems to have done the trick (knock on wood). Thing is, though, you need a bunch of 'em. One or two won't do. I lucked out and got eight of them for ten bucks at one of those job lot stores. So far, this winter I've only seen one mouse (in the mud room).

LOL about the Dubya pics. We get the mice too & they are pest. We end up having to use traps. Good luck with getting rid of them..

30something years ago I had a mouse problem. Three us lived in a little house in the country; we had horses, too. It was labor intensive, but we slowly made friends with mama mouse. Started little trails of cheese from the wall to the kitchen table. She'd nibble her way along he trail each night, closer and closer to a hand with a cheese nibble in it. Finally we earned her trust and could follow her and find the nest. She and the babies were happily relocated outside and then we did a major perimeter and underneath-the-house hole repair job. But it takes some major zen time. Not for those with real jobs--we were in college, and had ways to slow time, so to speak. I highly recommend the entire process.

Mouse Absconds With Maine Man's Dentures
From Associated Press
March 24, 2007 3:18 PM EDT
WATERVILLE, Maine - Never underestimate a mouse's determination. There's a mouse in Bill Exner's house that he says he has captured three times. Each time, the mouse escaped, and the last time the rodent made off with his lower dentures.

Exner, 68, said he and his wife Shirley scoured his bedroom after the dentures disappeared from his night stand.

"We moved the bed, moved the dressers and the night stand and tore the closet apart," he said. "I said, 'I knew that little stinker stole my teeth' - I just knew it."

They found a small opening in a wall where they suspected the mouse was coming and going, and their daughter's fiance, Eric Holt, stepped in to help.

"He brought a crowbar and hammer and he sawed off a section of wood and pulled up the molding and everything," Exner said. "It was quite a job."

They retrieved the dentures, and Holt suggested his future father-in-law boil them in peroxide and whatever else he could find for to disinfect it.

The mouse apparently isn't done. It frequently comes out and stares at Exner, his wife said.

"He's taunting him - I swear he's taunting him," Shirley Exner said.

Mice ARE rodents, rodents are gnawing critters, and the latin source of part of the name of rodent has something to do with dentures (teeth) so it makes perfect sense to me. But then again i AM me.

I liked Mrs. G's solution, but the only problem is that they always seem to have friends. I think we're just about through with them except for the garage ( I guess maybe that's their summer place) and that's fine with me.
They seemed to really make themselves at home. One night one was eating the hamster's fruit and nut bar so Michael shooed it away and moved the bar. A few minutes later it came back and you never heard such screaming. It was soooo mad that he had taken its dessert!
When I cleaned out the closet where it had made a nest out of an old disposable diaper, very fluffy stuff in them, it also complained very loudly. They're such cute little things, but they poop like every three inches as they run along.
I read somewhere that they won't chew through aluminum foil and that does seem to work as hole fillers
Thanks for all the help
