Ditto on the goosebumps. You're right, KJ, it's hype, but hype in support of a good vision is a refreshing change. I think what we need in a president is a leader with a clear vision, the ability to insipire the nation, and the ability to choose the right cabinet and advisors who have the savvy to carry out that vision. How much of that kind of work does the president do, anyway? I'll vote for whichever of them is nominated, but I'm really, really hoping it's the O Man, though for years I couldn't wait to vote for Hillary for president. Sigh... But doesn't it feel good to have to make a choice. That's been a long time coming.

Thank you for sharing that video, it's also on youtube so I snagged it for my iPod. I think we're all looking for something to hope for with this upcoming change in command.

This morning on German News they had a report about the election of the rep. and dem. candidates. They said that there was a polling and if it was election time now, the republican McCain (I hope the name is written right) would be tied with either Hillary or Barack Obama, and that the republicans now stand a good chance to keep the office. They stated that McCain's stand to legalize a lot of illegal immigrants give him a lot of votes. I don't know, but one would think that after GW the American population would have gotten tired of the republicans and there should be no question that a democrat will win the election, regardless who. But it seems that this is not the case.
Give me some ideas of your point of view.

Thank you for keeping us appraised of news In Germany! Here on US soil, there is an excitement for a candidate we have not seen for 40 years. Barak is literally taking this nation by storm. Here on Arlo.net , my new best friend kj has cornered me on the bench to see his point (it's a government tactic) to see his see analogy of the bridge!! This morning they reported about that special "?" Tuesday and gave the impression that Hillary was way in front in California and also in the total lead and that for the republican party it was clear that McCain will win.
They give this election very much air time since the outcome has a great bearing on our lives too.

I reckon. Just something that popped into my spaghetti colander head (pour stuff in it and all that's left is a pile of wet noodles! Must've been "Spaghetti O's"!).

I'm still really uneasy about this whole election. I hate to say it but I don't have much faith in American politics and voters. A young woman from Germany was briefly doing data entry where I work and I asked her what people in Germany thought of George "Dubya" Bush.

She said, "Is worst American president ever! How could American people elect him to second term?"

The only answers that I could come up with were not at all flattering.

...and Cap this is a remarkable time in election history... there may (or not) be actual choices...but the possibility is so energizing... and uncomfortable...
there's all kind of things to question.... like primaries and delegates and how each party does it and how do they get to decide??....learning so much stuff i never knew much about...

Democracy is one tough gig.... we all talk about flawed government and well deserved... but it's a government of, for and by flawed humans....
"in order to form a more perfect union" ... and what a challenge...it actually means taking responsibility for your government... and my biggest concern is that so many have lost that concept... enough folks rally for elections and then sit back and expect the government to do the work...

this serves alot of special interests....specifically those who are in power now... there's the concept of "feeding the beast" a term used to describe a tactic to maintain control of the body politic by getting members to fight with each other ... therefore drawing attention away from what those in control are doing... racism may often be a form of feeding the beast... as is sexism, hating immigrants....lots of stuff worth keeping an eye out for...

we're also a nation that is mesmerized by our televisions, professional sports (locally super tuesday got no coverage until after the super bowl)...cavorting pop stars and soap operas.... literally hypnotized as more prisoners are tortured or left for no reason in Guantanamo...
no, i'm not against fun, only obsessions that pull us so out of balance we don't even know what's being done to us or by us as a nation...

so this morning on democracy now there was a roundtable discussion that reminded me how important every day is before and after the election.... mostly Obama supporters talked about how to keep him (or anyone else) honest and accountable once the threshhold of the White House was crossed....as his (their) flaws are worrisome... and left unaccountable.... who knows?...
