Where would we be without the big-M Media
to explain the world to us?

I rarely read the news and NEVER watch TV news
(okay, I confess we don't even HAVE TV reception here).
I've been involved in quite a few events
that were reported on "the News"
(frequently as an attending paramedic)
and to be accurate I have NEVER,
not even one single time,
seen a news report that correctly reflected the events.
Frequently the story is actually
the OPPOSITE of what really happened.

Okay, I've got that off my chest.
I just spent a few minutes glancing through today's headlines
and here is a sample of what we are being told today
(I was going to add commentary
but how could I improve on them as is?) :

"Student athletes with concussions need time out"

"Whites who say they support Obama may not be telling the truth to pollsters"

"Saber-Toothed Cat Unearthed in Venezuela"

"Caring for a Special Needs Child Can Be Difficult for Business Travelers"

"Weight Loss Helps Diabetes Control"

"Global warming creates oil exploration rush to Arctic "

"Hot Chicks dig Obama!"

"U.S., allies consider expelling Russia from G8 as punishment for war"

And a tiny excerpt that I couldn't resist:

"In recent testimony to Congress Admiral Thad Allen, the head of the US Coast Guard, said:
“We are losing ground in the global competition.
I'm concerned we are watching our nation's icebreaking capabilities decline.”


This is where most "first-world" citizens get their information?
That is a truly frightening thought.

A final (I promise) note on news and access to news;
have you followed the bill before the legislature of Kentucky
that would make it a criminal offense to post ANYTHING
on the internet without using your correct name,
email address and physical address?
And that the State reserves the right to approve (or not)
every internet post, be it only a comment?

Being fed pre-digested, fallacious and propagandized news
is bad enough, but to deprive people of any alternative...
Well, I'll stop before I get started.
