I see today that Jeremy Hinzman is to be deported
to face charges of desertion from the US military.

I sent this letter to my MP
(Member of Parliament, like a US Representative/Congressman):

"This government is sending Jeremy Hinzman back
to face charges in a country that practices torture.
A country engaged in an illegal war, terrorism,
that violates contracts with its soldiers,
that appears to be trying to create WW3,
that is trying to steal Canadian territorial boundaries
to produce more pollution for us and and profit for them?

This action is contrary to the wishes of the Canadian people.
The people whom you are hired to represent.

I do not understand why this government
takes an adversarial position against its constituents
and collaborates with war criminals.

Please stop sending military refugees away.
We desire to be what we once were;
leaders in human freedom, leaders in peace,
and a refuge from militarism.

Besides, these are precisely the people Canada needs.
Maybe some of them will be our future MPs.

A couple of months ago I had written

As you can see, the Canadian Prime Minister
are no more interested in due process
or the will of the people
than is the US President.

The Canadian courts also favour
providing refuge to US military avoidees:

But the PM is no more concerned about the courts
than Bush is about the NATO rulings.

We can all stop boasting about our political superiority
over Russia, China, and everyone else.
Maybe he abuses are not yet as obvious,
but if we run fast enough we'll soon catch up.

Since Canada's government is so sensitive to US wishes
perhaps a few thousand letters from American people
would do more than our efforts from within?

It is sadly disturbing that Canada or any other enlightened country would align itself with a war criminal like Bush. That America elected him twice is beyond disturbing. The White House, amazingly, is at this moment scolding Russia for attacking Georgia! These people are schizophrenic. They need to be made to watch "The Day the Earth Stood Still" until the message sticks. And it is frustrating when so-called democratic governments refuse to listen to the will of its people. I don't know about Canada, but the U.S. is an oligarchy in practice, not a democracy. These days money trumps ideals in the end everytime.

"They" don't need to see the movie, they need to experience a visit (and maybe a ray gun blast or two) from Klaatu & Gort. By "they", I would include all of the planet's politicos and their corporate puppet masters.
