The government is trying to bend us over for another good one...

I've written to both my senators - and plan on calling as well, I suggest you do the same.

Supposedly from what I could find... this legislation has already been passed by the House of Representatives and is currently in a Senate Committee that will vote on it November 19th 2009.

A few more thoughts...

The real problem with this bill is it allows the government to get their foot in the door for taxing any internet transaction. They have been trying for years to accomplish this, but so far unsuccessfully. Now, on the backs of those awful tobacco users, they will be able to set a precedent for taxing anything else on the internet. TAX, TAX, TAX...where will it all end?

I have been looking all around today after hearing about this. It's funny that there have probably been 100's of comments with all of the places combined...and all have been the same: NO to this Act. Yet, (like so many others), I have no doubt that this WILL get passed, no matter how many comments, Emails to Reps. + Senators, etc. against such bills are sent to them. THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE OR LISTEN TO ANYONE... Except their own buddies, contributors, and special interests.

Heaven help you if you are a disabled & homebound smoker and the Internet is your only means of purchasing things.

Freedom my ass!

If the intent is to stop harmful behaviors, why isn't the alcohol tax increased until it's onerous?

And.....if the intent is to stop harmful behaviors, perhaps a tax on congress would be in order

Then they would have to tax Faux News and Rush Limbaugh at mucher highers rates as well.

And we don't need another Whiskey Rebellion!

Good thing we brew our own mead & beer! Harmful behavior, indeed! Elderberry mead is high in anti-oxidants! (hic!)

Hey! There you go, Dave. Grow your own tobacky! You'll even be able to put in your own chemicals and additives so you'll know what yer smokin'.

Do yourself a favor, Dave: Quit now.

I watched the last ten years of my Dad's life. That was enough to make me stop.

We lost my mother in law in 2006, and my mother this past July to lung cancer. It's an extremely ugly way to die...not pleasant for the person, and it's extremely hard for the family to watch the loved one slowly run out of lung space to breathe...and talk. Both ladies quit smoking 30-some years ago, and they still ended up with it.

Smokers are only 20.6 percent of the population according to the Nov. 12 issue of US. News and World Report.

I lost my last playing partner to lung cancer two years ago. He went within a year of diagnosis. One night, we're playing a great gig. Next thing, I'm telling him in his casket that he looked terrible (if he had minded, it would have been a great day).

It breaks a heart to watch. Haven't played in a band since. Bands are like marriage and puppies. Lose'em and you don't want to risk it again. Bands with life long friends are worse in that respect. Is the habit worth what it costs everyone you love after you can't care anymore?

Quit, Dave. It may not make a difference but the odds are it will and the odds are all you can play.

They're right. So glad I do no smoke. I am allergic to cigs now anyhow. The smoke chokes and gags me...

The first thing is to want to stop smoking.
