I think the grays really are us come from the future to tell us to quit being us. Consider that if we stay on this path we'll achieve light speed and time travel but be so dull there will be everywhere anytime to be and no one anywhere anytime interested in having us around.

Actually, there are good sides to it. Non-animal enzyme cultures for cheese making were genetically developed to replace rennet, an enzyme in the stomachs of young calves that curdles milk. The calves have to be killed for the rennet. Not so with cultures. So, "synth-meat" might not be a bad thing. It could also cut down on factory farm pollution, among other things mentioned in the article. Kind of like a Star Trek TNG episode where Lt. Cmdr. Riker said that (in the Star Trek universe) it was no longer necessary to subjugate animals for food.

I don't think we'll ever make it to the Grays. As one of the actors who played a great ape in the "Greystoke" movie said after filming, humans are "... just apes with expensive toys."

This engineered meat brings to mind some Sci-Fi novels...Soylent Green and, strangely enough, Frank Herbert's "Hellstrom's Hive". In both, they were engineering food and in "Hellstrom's Hive"...bioengineered human nebbishes.

I agree that vegetarians would probably still not want to partake of the synth-meat but you're still going to have meat eaters who want their steaks, chicken, veal, etc. even with all of the health issues associated with them. Not to mention the growth hormones, food additives, antibiotics, pollution, large resource input vs. small meat output and questionable moral/factory farming issues related to them. A lot of that could be reduced or eliminated if the process is developed to a point where it doesn't require dead animals. But fear not. It probably won't happen because Monsanto's corn empire, agricultural chem/pharms and the factory pharm cartels won't let it.

We do have meat alternatives now in supermarkets that are pretty tasty but....
A true story: Lunch time at a former place of my employment, I had a veggie burger in the toaster oven. Fellow worker comes in and says, "Mmmmm! What smell so good?"
"My lunch," I replied. "Want a try some?"
"What is it?" she asked.
"Veggie burger," says me.
"Eeuuu! No thanks!" she disgustedly replies through wrinkled facial features.
So, dead (who knows for how long?), frozen, ground up animal parts are okay and yummy but texturized, spiced vegetable protein is disgusting and gross?

There are very healthy foods available, if you got the 'Do-Re-Mi'. I live only a few miles from the Gulf Coast --- lots of fresh seafood. And locally grown organic produce in farmers' markets all around. But the cost of these foods are incredibly high.

While generally okay, certain fish contain high levels of PCBs, mercury and other contaminants. Depending on the fish, the State of CT recommends one meal/week max for folks in the low risk group (healthy adults) and one meal/month max for the high risk group (pregnant or child bearing age woman, nursing mother or child under six years old). Contaminated levels in fish vary by species and/or the body of water that they were caught in. Ain't pollution wonderful? Makes you wonder what's in the aquifer!

That pamphet shows me that some folks at least are on top of things to get the word out about the dangers of eating too much fish, well not fish really, but you know, the yukky stuff, pcb's, mercury, etc.
It's shameful that we have "shit where we eat". so to speak......
