Libertarianism is the poorly thought out philosophy of the Republican Party. It can be summarized in 3 simple words Me, Myself and I despite the voluminous writings of Ayn Rand. I don't believe this was what Woody was about.

I don't necessarily agree with this. I do believe the term Libertarianism has been taken by some to represent a philosophy that supports unrestricted ownership of guns as well as the entire tea bag movement (which has become a thinly veiled Karl Rove-conservative think tank initiative). I have admired a Libertarian philosophy for years that is more of a civil liberties based philosophy (that ultimately morphed into the right to tote guns). But?

In PA the legislature is considering vouchers for children in low income schools where public schooling has been deemed a failure. Something like $7900 a year per kid. thus they can take taxpayers money and go to parochial or private schools on taxpayers money to be successfully educated. The next area of fixing the world will then be disrupting civil servant collective bargaining. So what is going on in Wisconsin will soon be in a theater near you if it isn't already. Will these measures really be effective in solving the problems we face in this country? Will we achieve better education at lower cost? I think they are short sighted and treat symptoms not causes.

I dunno. One of the things I used to believe about this country is that anybody could do anything. There are lots of kids out there that can't get the help the school says they need from their parents. Not just because the parents aren't willing. There are still plenty of kids in school that surpass their parents ability to really help them around the third grade. The parents are willing to help. They don't know how to do the math, science, and technological things their kids are exposed to now. If a homeless orphan can't go to school and get what they need, we are doing something wrong. We are leaving many children behind that don't need to be.
