Post subject: Can't We all Just.......
PostPosted: Sun Dec 02, 2001 1:08 pm

Can you hear it? the symbolic gears, meshing world-wide geo-political peace, just slipped back, several notches...Marines are poised, to enter Kahndahar, Talban & Al Quiada forces will not go quietly... Isreali forces are poised, on the West Bank, to take out Hammas, they will not go quietly.
Rodney King said "Can't We all just get along?" the immediate answer seems to be... "NO, we can't" I'm sad, and fearful for what that answer portends

One world, Indivisible.. it's a natural law, we break it at our own peril.... yet, here we go...

Well, I guess he took the day off. Slacker! Anyway, the one world thing..well, it's certainly one planet..but i'm finding there are such different frames of reference here, that it might as well not be. I mean..the thinking that seems to have prompted the attack that prompted the war is so far off of the way we think about things that it's hard to get your mind around it. So, I'm feeling that understanding more, for me, amounts to understanding less, and feeling more like there are more different worlds on our world than i ever realized.

I don't really know what to think or feel about this whole business with war - I'm totally against it. I don't believe that any good comes from any war. But that's me and my beliefs. As for understanding, this is what I do understand. We all have to live here together, so if understanding is something to difficult, why not just accept that people will always believe in different things and make the best of what we have while we are here. Life is too short to have hate in our hearts. I believe in Peace and I hope I'm still on this earth when we all wake up and see it achieved. I hope I have not offended anyone with that statement.
Peace

Ters, certainly I'm not offended in the least. However, there are a lot of people whose fundamental world view is diametrically opposite and opposed to just about everything you said -- and that's just among the AmeriCanadian hippie population. Then we start getting to the people whose perspective is appreciably different, as well. After that, we cross borders, and ...

Damned if I know what the answer is. Wish I did. Certainly worth delving into the topic though, and if anyone does have the answers, will you please cough them up, already?

No answers here; wish there were. I've always been totally opposed to war of any kind, except that I thought we were right to stop the Axis in WWII, because they would have taken the entire world into their nightmare if we hadn't stopped them. Trouble is, that seems to be the case again. "It can't happen here, I tell you, my dear, it can't happen here" isn't true. It could. I really, really don't want to wear a burka (though I'm anticipating pix of Bumper in one). I'm so <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/confused.gif" width=15 height=22>

I agree with each comment, I surely don't have answers..sometimes, I do think it helps to "frame" the questioon, with the basics, though. That such different world-views have developed, is due to, differing cultures, conditions, religions, and mayne more basic, hopes for the future..we, in north america have always believed that "things" would improve, over time.. that view isn't shared, universally, and perhaps, now, it isn't held by us, either... some have taken the pessimistic outlook to nihilistic "extremes" my fear is that, that view may become infectuous & thus, self-fufilling..
Ceashel, I've been known to trip over parking lot paint, "uncovered", in a burka, my screen name might become very apt!

Just some not entirely random thoughts: Any culture can spawn what, this time, came from an Arab/Moslem culture. We've got our share of cults and 'survivalists.' The West isn't responsible for what or what is not in the Koran, but 'we' have kept many parts of the world at the economic/political level 'we' wanted. I just said to Sherry in an e-mail that one of the things I have to fight in myself is the impulse to rush in and 'fix' things that go wrong. I think it's a fault I share with my country. And apparently it works as splendidly with countries as it does with teenagers.

I've read that that's a "male trait" cseashel. to apply an immed "fix" instead of looking at the "cause" That's true, about nihilists, T McVeigh, being an example...random rambles, here too... FOX news just reported North. Alliance has captured an American, who was fighting w/ the Taliban,, Abdullah Somebody aka John Walker.. from, (where else!!) Northrn California, in the current pop-speak, "That guy has "issues"

How bizarre! The photo of him in the CNN article reminds me of a couple of truly weird people I met in anti-war groups ca. 'Nam years. There was a look in the eyes...

Also from cnn:
"If he is determined to be a U.S. citizen, he would be taken back to the United States, officials said. Whether he would be tried, and by whom, remains unclear."

He'd better hope he stays in custody; he'll be safest that way.

my last post doesn't read right, ceashel, I'm not equating you w/ nihilists, in any way. those were two sequential, unconnected comments...
now, if I could edit again.......(hello Mr Webmaster!!!) i could've corrected that, w/out a seperate post!
I acknowledge your ability to restrict peoples' editing capability, here, and request that you restore mine....
