The world lost one of it's finest actors sometime yesterday from kidney failure.

Rod was truely a genious. The one part he turned down with haste, was the part of General Patton. Of course the other guy got the Oscar.

Rod Steiger was adamant about speaking out about Manic-Depression, which robbed him of yrs. of his life, untill he was diagniosed & went into treatment. I will always commend him for that representation of himself. There is SO much stigma attached to having 'any' form of mental illness it takes a very brave man, to live it & talk it, walk it, & breath it. As with the case with Rod!
I know when I get down, it's people like Rod Steiger that sort of keep me going.

Don't know what it's like to be a star!
I've never flown on an airplane.
Wouldn't know what it's like to hold a million dollars.

But I do know living with bi-polar illness can be hell. So to Rod. Rest in peace dude. You (in my book of hearts) are definately one of the best actors to ever grace a movie screen!

i'll note here that another person passed yesterday as well, one who didn't have the stature of a star such as Steiger, but had a major success and impact on our culture... Lore Noto, the original producer (and oft-time co-star) of the longest continous running play in history, The Fantasticks, at the Sullivan St. Playhouse in NYC.
I saw the play there a few times over it's 40+ year tenure, twice with Noto appearing, and it never failed to charm me, and find me humming 'try to remember' on the way out...

Oh wow sorry to hear about them. Peace & God Bless. Had no idea that TRY TO REMEMBER was from the FANTASTIKS. What I remember that song from is an episode of CHICO & THE MAN-- the piano bar episode where it's Ed Browns anniversary between him & his late wife Margaret & he goes to a piano bar they used to go to to try to reminisce about her. He winds up playing piano there alot of nites & meeting a new girlfriend Flora & Chico tries to get Ed back into the present. Jack Albertson sings that song in that episode & does a nice job of it.
