As, everyone is aware of, we lost a great warrior, Todd Goodman. It truly is a sad day. My heart goes out to Cindy & Todd's family for thier great loss.

**I've listened to 'Fire & Rain' (by James) about 9 times in a row now. I was gonna post the words, but figured most all you folkies know them.

***"I always thought I'd see you one more time again" J.T.

#4. Time to go for a long walk, & understand. Well, I can try to understand.

It'd be nice if someone did post the words..?

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now

The words to this song keep going thru my head since I found out about Todd:

WAKE UP DEAD
words and music by Arlo Guthrie

When I was younger
She'd come to me in dreams
Her face was hidden
In the mountain streams
Her voice disguised
As the sound of the wind
The rustling of leaves
She would call from within

Chorus:

Wake up, wake up, wake up, she said
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up dead

So many memories
Of those years have passed
Beyond the confusion
That [ thought would last forever
The countless veils
That I wore like clothes
Have been stripped away
Now [ stand here exposed

Chorus

In the night when the moon
Casts no shadows at all
We sat by the fire
As she started to call
Out to all who would hear
That the death of what's dead
Is the birth of what's living
And her words filled my head

Chorus

It's the life that lies sleeping
When you think you're awake
Forever is real
And the rest is just fake
And though volumes are written
On this subject alone
She used three simple words
And she brought it all home

Chorus

Well holy hannah. I was not aware of what was going on. I knew Todd had been battling some type of illness, but I haven't been around frequently enough to keep up on things, and never felt like badgering him with questions about it. What was it that Todd had?

I'm going to miss his sense of piss and vinegar. He always made me laugh with the biting humor, and willingness to wrestle with anyone. He was one unique guy, pretty much had his own language. I can't count the times I'd read his post about 50 times, and ask myself, "what the fuck does that mean?"

Bob Weir has said many times that he doesn't really get sad about Jerry, or even miss him that much, because he always feels that Jerry is standing right behind him, on and off the stage. I hope that's how it will be with Todd. This board is some sort of bizaare community, and hopefully we'll always feel Todd just around the corner, lurking, ready to throw in the perfect smart-ass comment.

Namaste indeed my friend--love to you wherever you are,
lcj
